Is This "Vogue" Cover Dangerous? Domestic violence advocates say yes.

http://www.buzzfeed.com/hillaryreinsberg/is-this-vogue-cover-dangerous?s=mobile

The latest issue of Vogues Hommes International (a Paris-based edition targeted to men) features a striking image on its cover — of Brazilian model Marlon Teixera with his hand wrapped around Stephanie Seymour's neck.

...

While the photo has incited some backlash, it's not the first time choking has appeared in a fashion shoot:

This March 2012 editorial in Pop magazine, for example, featured 16-year-old model Hailey Clauson also getting choked. In other photos in the spread, Clauson was pictured standing with naked porn stars.

I agree with them. If someone gets off on violence great, keep it in your bedroom. There is way too much violence against women by intimate partners, there is no reason to give any appearance of its acceptability at all, and lots of reasons not to.

we have made too much gain in independence and freedom and financial security. dominance and control has to come in some form, to allow men that are so fuckin fearful of equality.

Seriously... WTF

And it is also important when nonverbal “yeses” (tongues still touching) conflict with those verbal “noes” that the man not be put in jail for choosing the “yes” over the “no.” He might just be trying to become her fantasy.

Don't punish the poor men for raping a woman if she kissed him first! He was probably trying to become her rape fantasy!!!

Fucking shocking, isn't it?

Other excerpts from the author of that noxious garbage have been posted in earnest by others here, the men's group, etc.

Equally disturbing - the women who buy this magazine without a question in their minds about the cover.

but yeah, women consume a shit ton of misogynist media of all kinds.

That old internalized sexism... again. Many don't even notice it, cause it's so normalized.

Normalizing violence against women by unabashedly glamorizing it is absolutely not OK.

Not to mention sexual abuse/assault survivors do not need to have that shit thrown in their faces at the checkout of the Piggly Wiggly. (Or Le Piggle Wiggle or whatever they have in France.)

I hate Vogue. If the roles were reversed, the woman would be in a costume, ala dominatrix. Can't win with this kind of bullshit. The outfit the woman is wearing, despite the top being unbuttoned, is just school-girlish enough to up the creep factor. Exponentially.
