1. No amount of an apology will ever leave these young women scar less ever. Shame on them.

They knew and did nothing. Even if they paid them nothing changes the horror they went through.

2. Well, they're old women now

and at least the apology is sincere and some money to help in their old age might be coming to them.

There doesn't seem to be any sort of an apology coming to the women who were warehoused in US mental institutions for the crime of being females no one wanted any more.

I saw them, too.

ETA: watch the video. It's long and it's scathing and addresses much of what you said.

There is usually a method to my madness. However, feel free to cross post if you wish to.

8. I would guess about 95% of DUers have never heard of the Magdalen Laundries

so you probably made the right choice.

Perhaps if an OP was titled "Sinead O'Connor's former home..." it would get more attention.

Thanks again for posting.

10. The man's party was all in attendance. Not so the other parties.

Shame on them. It goes to prove that party in-fighting trumps everything else in Ireland as it does in our own GOP.

I'd love to know which party he represents, and which parties had such sparse attendance. If anyone knows that. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for posting. I thought he spoke very well, and it was honest and respectful.

He stayed clear of bashing the church's role. Interesting that he didn't dare go there.

but he wasn't there to address all the blood on the church's hands, only to atone for the collusion of the government in a slave labor/false imprisonment scheme that left these women damaged for life, even long after release.

The whole thing probably started with the best intentions but those all too often pave the way to hell. The Magdalene survivors have experienced that hell.

insult that the general purpose was to punish loose women.

Unfreakingbelievable.

The church despises women. This is probably the most insidious proof of that.

I can't see how catholic women can tolerate it.

but I was a wiseass and a rebel. It takes other women a lifetime. It took my mother sitting down and reading the bible cover to cover and her rage was hilarious!

But yeah, it's always been a death cult, praising virginity and martyrdom, despising women for producing the next generation of victims and blaming them for the sins of men.

I'm a teacher, and I can tell you that's the age they start to see the educational system for what it is. I just don't get how others can put up with it after that.

Let's hear it for rebels!
