I suppose they could--- perhaps using the 'women eating on the tubes' bullshit to fight global starvation or something.
But something about this brand of assholery is striking--like they've raised being an asshole to an art form. I wasn't going to post anything about this. Still probably shouldn't since they are like malignant children, crying for negative attention. Plus there's an embedded video, and I didn't want to give our stalker friends gratuitous thrills-- because, well, they're the same kind of asshole. And they're proud of it. Which is nausea inducing, involuntary shudderingly, hair crawling creepy. But we know there plenty of creepers around.
But, I gave in.
If a video of women riding a sex toy in public were just a stunt to encourage participants to own their sexuality, we’d watch, turn a little red, share with friends (probably not directly to Facebook) and move on.
But this hyper-sexual stunt waged by Simple Pickup -- an all-male group that advises men on topics such as how to pick up women when you’re high –- tried incorporating a devastating human rights issue into the film, and it fell predictably flat.
The three-member posse (whom you may remember from another controversial stunt that involved them motorboating women for breast cancer awareness) brought a Sybian, a female sex toy, to Venice Beach.
They offered female passersby the chance to ride it while also raising awareness and funds for Orchid Project, a nonprofit that fights to stop the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM).
While there are numerous issues with this awareness campaign, a glaring problem is its inherent insensitivity to one of FGM's most dire consequences. According to UNICEF, one of the reasons communities continue the practice of FGM is to reduce a woman's sexual desire, a pleasure the woman featured in the video unabashedly enjoy.

. In November 2006, TARGET organized and financed a conference under the patronage of the Eygyptian Great Mufti Ali Gomaa at Al-Azhar University of Cairo. As a result of the conference, leading authorities of Islamic law denounced genital mutilation.

The breakthrough: in November 2006 in the Azhar University in Cairo, TARGET, together with eminent Islamic scholars, organised an “International Conference of Islamic Scholars against Female Genital Mutilation” under the patronage of the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Prof Dr Ali Gom’a. The outcome made history and amounts to a defining fatwa and a legal document. “Female genital mutilation is a criminal offence. It is contrary to the highest values of Islam”.
The Afar people ( Ethiopia, population 1.6 million) back in 2002 declared Female Genital Mutilation to be a sin at the “1 st Desert Conference” organised by TARGET. They are the first people to draw effective legal consequences for their people from the Cairo fatwa. The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs for the Afar People together with all clan leaders set down on 6 July 2007 the sanction for Female Genital Mutilation in tribal law: “A legal obligation to report parents and blood money from the circumcisers”. TARGET as a result is allowed to hang a large metal plaque with photographs of prominent members of the Afar community in front of the mosque at the entrance to Samara, the new capital of the Afar province. The VIPs declare their support for the message that stands resplendent on the plaque in four languages: “Female Genital Mutilation is a sinful deed”!
Decisive “Desert Conferences” in Djibouti and Mauritania (2004) involving political and religious tribal leaders led to outlawing Female Genital Mutilation. TARGET has been given permission to hang a transparency bearing the fatwa against Female Genital Mutilation in front of the seventh largest holy shrine of Islam, a pilgrims’ mosque in the Mauritanian desert.
Why do Muslims trust TARGET?
Because TARGET from the start and contrary to the zeitgeist has always believed that the best chance to put an end to the custom can be found in the strength of Islam itself.
Because TARGET has co-operated from the beginning with the highest Islamic authorities.

What I know that works with FGM is education from local leaders-- which is the exact right tact to take. Even when it's a cultural ritual, working with and convincing local leaders has made inroads into stopping FGM
There is nothing in the Koran that supports FGM, and it a cultural phenomena more that a religious one, but somehow it's been intertwined with Islam, because of the numbers of Islamic practitioners.
