Starting Kicker And Homecoming Queen -- She's Having A Good Year So Far

By D'Arcy Maine | Sep 17, 2014

As if being a star on the football team wasn’t enough, one senior at South Jones High School in Ellisville, Mississippi, was also voted homecoming queen. Meet 17-year old Mary Kate Smith: starting kicker on the football team, soccer standout and newly crowned homecoming queen. So that’s a pretty impressive start to senior year.

so much either/or. Take the little league pitcher, Mo`ne. She was asked why she "doesn't play more feminine sports like soccer". Her reply was...I do play soccer.

The if you play one sport precludes a person from playing another, which also by some bizarre thinking that you can't also be homecoming Q. To me feminism is not about either/or. It is about having the opportunity to do all you want. Whether you excel or fail is not the point. The opportunity is.

The days of all women being labeled and treated like girly girls are coming to a close. *Some* men get that, while others need to be brought kicking and screaming through the uprights on the gridiron.

-this is me not being cynical, thanks to sheshe's thread this morning.
