Cosmo wrote a positive body image article on how to get a bikini body? Say what?

Sent to me by my girlfriend, this actually made me laugh.

http://www.cosmopolitan.com/sex-love/news/a40220/things-every-twentysomething-woman-needs-to-do-to-get-a-bikini-body/

1. Eat what you normally eat because you're a living human with caloric needs. You are everything you need to be right now. You don't need to be less or more of it to look good in a bikini. So if you already eat pretty healthy and sometimes want to eat pizza, eat pizza. And if you do want to make changes, do it because you genuinely want to, not because you feel like if you don't, then you don't belong in a bikini, because that is false.

...snip...

5. Eat chocolate sometimes if you want to because you live only once. Having a piece of chocolate here and there isn't going to suddenly make you gain 45 pounds. And also, have you had chocolate? It's delicious.

6. Exercise because it keeps you healthy, not because you're trying to run off your "problem areas." Guys are never told they have problem areas. Not in those words. But women are told they have problem areas like it's this deeply urgent thing they need to attend to or else. Exercise is supposed to make you feel good and have endurance, so you don't run out of breath after you've only been swimming for three minutes both good things! It was not intended to be a punishment for being a woman. (I like that part--italics mine.) Stop doing that to yourself, please. And while you're at it...

The rest of the article is pretty good, worth a look. I'm shocked, Cosmo. Genuinely shocked.

And right underneath?

This article:

"Nearly 100% of women who've had abortions say they don't regret it. *mic drop*"

Cosmo ain't perfect. But we're making progress. Their audience is getting fed up with what they've so often stood for. Glad to see young women aren't taking their crap anymore.

2. I don't think they've made sense in years

Quick, call the Guinness Book people.

3. I quit reading those magazines decades ago

and I have no intention of starting again. I will occasionally (like once every two-three years) glance at Marie Claire because they do some actual stories about something besides beauty products.

5. They.re terrible, no doubt about it.

There's a reason I don't read them. But it's cool to see them start shifting their attitudes in response to a newer generation of readers.

4. Getting a bikini body is really much simpler

1. Have a body and a bikini
2. Put the bikini on your body.
