Frustrated Sexual Assault Victim Facing Contempt Charge for Tweeting Names of Her Attackers

http://jezebel.com/5928030/frustrated-sexual-assault-victim-facing-contempt-charge-for-tweeting-names-of-her-attackers

A Louisville teenager could be facing a contempt of court charge that carries a possible 180-day jail sentence and $500 fine after she violated the terms of a plea deal by tweeting the names of the two teenage boys who sexually assaulted her. Savannah Dietrich and her mother have insisted on talking about the case the publicly, in an effort, they say, to help ensure that Dietrich's attackers face some more serious consequences than the legal "slap on the wrist" Dietrich thinks they got as per their plea deal.

Dietrich told the Courier-Post's Jason Riley that she was assaulted in August of 2011 by two boys at a party. She later learned that pictures had been taken of the incident and disseminated among her peers.

For months, I cried myself to sleep. I couldn't go out in public places. You just sit there and wonder, who saw (the pictures), who knows?

On June 26, her attackers pled guilty to first-degree sexual abuse and misdemeanor voyeurism and struck a deal that Dietrich says she knew nothing about until just before it was announced in court. Floored by the apparent leniency (Dietrich has not been able to speak of the proposed punishment because of a court order) with which her attackers were treated, Dietrich tweeted their names, violating Judge Dee McDonald's admonishment to everyone at the hearing not to speak about the crime or about what happened in court. ...

I hope we all get to find out what their punishment was.

with their names getting out there when they were bragging about the rape and showing pictures. Not until they were due to be punished for it. They lost their right to privacy in this matter by their very actions. I hope the judge takes this into consideration and does not make this girl serve any time. If he does, the justice system will have failed her. They are rapists and should be labeled as such for the rest of their lives. It might help save other women from becoming their victims.

I looked this up as far as I could. She is in your face brave, has her own lawyer. She is going public with her own name, I dont get the gag order, unless it's a legal thing having to do with age.

I hope she gets legal aid from victims rights groups.

Not going quietly into the night, not this one. I'll bet a dollar that those boys think their punishment is either too harsh, that they 'did the right thing' by pleading guilty to anything in the first place or both.

What are the names of the two rapists? Are they floating around the Internet anymore? If they are college bound - i would like my two nieces and several friends' daughters heading off to University next month to know who these two convicted sex offenders are.

I'm also bolding my signature line.

To add to her pain and suffering the inability to share her experience, and yes, warn others is absolutely one of the sickest things I have heard.

I hope she talks and her ability to do so freely is rigorously defended.

Good for her for being so brave.
