Related: About this forum#NotBuyingIt: Go Daddy Disappoints, Again
In June we announced, with cautious excitement, that Go Daddy had decided to hire a new ad agency (Deutsch NY) and rethink their historically sexist style of advertising. While many of us had hoped the company would tiptoe away from objectification, this past week we saw the first examples of their new campaign aired during the Olympics on NBC and we are sad to report that the company seems to have little intention of leaving sexism behind.
The new spots feature women posing suggestively next to socially awkward men, while a male voice-over explains the advertising strategy: scantily-clad females attract customers, while men do the real work to keep the business running. In one commercial a model named Selina is compared to a customer service agent named Wayne like this: Wayne pays attention to you, you pay attention to Selina. Its Go Daddy poking fun at their own small-minded ideas of the past, while simultaneously repackaging them for use again.
In every spot men are presented as the technology (the intelligence) behind the company, while women are shown as quite literally the window dressing that draws people into the business. Its far from subtle, and consumers are already rejecting the messaging:
Dear #GoDaddy: So men are the brains of your company and women are just the bait??#notbuyingit

but, he is walking away and says, i dont eat at chic fil a.
and i say, if it was a commercial with KKK selling product you would not use that.
he says, but, i was using godaddy before the commercials.
you were eating chic fil a before the gay issue.
you stopped. and you would stop with a racist commercial. but, with a misogynist ad like this (and he does agree and is offended by the ad) it is a shrug of the shoulder.
this is a GOOD man. and still.
he hates these commercials. he doesnt like what it promotes. doesnt agree with it.
and still

(7,237 posts)It's way easier to stop eating Chick-fil-A then to swap internet host providers.
I run 4 websites and it would be a major pain in the ass to change to another, and I'd have to walk from contracts (and forfeit money) if I wanted to do it today.
Fortunately none of mine are with Go Daddy. If they were, I'd think about swapping providers when the contract was up for renewal, but it would take major effort and significant time to move my accounts and sites to another one.
I don't know to what extent he is using Go Daddy, might be a smaller thing for him than it would be for me... but if he has a seed planted, maybe he'll change something sometime in the future.

(36,478 posts)Their service is good, though. At least they've always been helpful to me.
However, next year, when most of my sites expire, I will move to a new hosting company & I will relish writing that letter! I will take a a bit of a hit, but not too bad. The inconvenience is a huge factor, too.
Who do you host with?

(7,237 posts)They've both been fine, Lunarpages has been especially helpful whenever I've needed tech support. (I haven't had need to tech support for HostMonster yet, that site is fairly new... only reason for that not being on Lunarpages too was client preference.)

(110,159 posts)is not something that the user can do to get it across to godaddy that they do not like it anymore than the rest of us. they are just kinda stuck with them.
