(664 posts)DUers responded in a particular way. To get an accurate number I was asking how many active posters there are rather just the total people that have posted at sometime during the lifetime of DU.

(38,421 posts)Go to a post with lots of responses, then you will get an accurate picture of how many people come here.
Today is June 14, Wednesday. I am not sure, but more people come here on the weekend.
........That is what I think, TOTALLY NOT SURE OF THAT FACT

(3,696 posts)I'm retired now and spend a lot of time reading and following politics online. Unfortunately I see too many users on DU some of them heavy posters that haven't bothered to support the site via the small membership fee.

(27 posts)I'm fairly new here. Except for 2 welcomes, I am insignificant got used to it since I emigrated here 45 yrs ago. Sharply feel alienated. Who gives a damn. C'est la vie en etis unis.

(23,656 posts)Niyad and Hortensis who responded to a post you made on 9/26/2022 with a "Welcome to DU".
When you first join it is suggested you log in and once you can post, (I believe it's 10 responses) create a post that tells the DU family a little bit about yourself. Those posts generate a ton of welcoming comments.
Just see what happened to Chi67. He posted an introductory post and received 58 Welcoming comments. Bet you would have done just as well had you posted an introductory post.
Hi! New here [View all]
Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. Im a man who happens to be gay from Chicago. Its hard to find forums online that are decent these days, but this looks like a great one! Also, I work in advertising and am an ice hockey goalie. Looking forward to good, thoughtful discussions!
So don't feel sorry for yourself or "insignificant. There are so many new posts all day long, one little response post will not generate a lot of
"Welcome TO DU" responses. Posts move too quickly to the bottom of the page. You are not insignificant.
Post a Hi, I'm fairly new here post and see what happens.
Oh, and by the way.....WELCOME!!!!

(48,975 posts)that this question was related to one.
Apparently it's related to two - your two General Discussion threads about personal UFO sightings on April 23, two days before you posted this.Community Help thread:
https://democraticunderground.com/100217852064
https://democraticunderground.com/100217853696
You said this in the second OP:
You are NOT going to be able to draw any conclusions as to how common UFO sightings are by doing what you did, even if you knew how many active, regular users DU has (which is proprietary information and only the admins' business anyway).
If you look at the number of views your threads got, the total was several thousand. A lot of those are duplicates, since every time someone looks at a thread it's counted as another view, no matter how many times they looked at it previously. But even cutting that view count in half, it's thousands of views. The messages from DUers about UFO sightings would be just a tiny, tiny percentage of that.
And that's even though your referring to UFOs in the thread titles meant you had a self-selecting group of readers particularly interested in UFOs and much more likely to say they've had such experiences than DUers in general.
All DU polls suffer from the same problem. But at least if something is set up as a poll, people will know they can vote for various options, and you're more likely to get some idea of what percentage of DUers have had such experiences.
If they bother to vote in your poll. If they see it at all. Both of which are big IFs.
Asking people in this forum, which gets very little traffic compared to GD, how much they use DU will never get you any real idea of how many active, regular users DU has, let alone how common UFO experiences are.
You'd have to poll all the users.
I'm sure EarlG could email everyone registered here, simultaneously, since I had that admin option when I used vBulletin board software.
I can't imagine him using it for anything that wasn't a real emergency, though.
And I can imagine the sort of responses he'd get if he used that admin option to ask how many DUers had personal UFO sightings...
