I had to open a new DU account.

This is luv_mykatz. I might have spelled it as luv_mycats. Anyway, I am not a new poster, nor am I a newbie to DU.

Because my old account was registered with an old email account that I don't have anymore, I could not send myself a temporary password so I could access my old account. There did not appear to be any way of fixing my problem, other than to open a new account.

I see, from looking at my little book where I keep track of passwords, that I had to change my DU password last year on 12/9/11. Unfortunately I didn't write down what the new password was, so I could not access my old account tonight.

Hmmm...checking my little book, I see that my old username was luv_mykatz.

Anyway, I have lost my post count. This is a bummer, because I don't post very often. It will take me a long time to build it back up. Sadly, some people won't respond to someone with a low post count, because that can be a way to identify people who are trolls.

I am NOT a troll.

Hopefully, others will learn from this, and write down their passwords. Perhaps the admins can come up with a way for members to update our account information? Maybe someone can post a thread so this doesn't happen to anyone else? Pretty please?

But now that you do have an account, there's a couple of things you can do.

First, PM Skinner, and explain what happened. Maybe he can restore your old account and post count.

Secondly, unless you share your computer, why log out in the first place? I stay logged in all the time.

And Firefox remembers my password.

Good luck, and welcome back!

I have to get my post count up over 50 before I can use the DU emailing system to PM Skinner.

I don't have enough posts yet, I don't think.

As far as logging out goes, I don't do that on my own. I use Firefox also, but it seems to log me out of a number of my web visiting places from time to time. I have no idea why it does this?

I don't know if it's my ad block program that does that, or if it is a feature/benefit of my ISP (Comcast)? ( if it results from anything due to Comcast; NOT a benefit to have to keep logging on to my frequently visited sites.)

Bless you for replying.

When I get enough posts, I will try a PM to Skinner.

I checked my little book that I use to keep track of my passwords in. It looks like I had to change my DU password last year on 12/9/11. Unfortunately for me, I did not write down last year's password at the time of the change. Silly me.

to your username. Right now, tonight, it's 21.

Or you could email Skinner any time.

Anything I can do to help, believe me, I will...

I hate to see people flounder.

The old email addy in question was with Hotmail.

Someone hacked that account quite a number of months ago. I tried to fix it with Hotmail, but my cat was sitting on my arms while I was typing. Ummm...this messed up my efforts to answer my security questions. Hotmail shut down the account.

I could've opened a new Hotmail account, but the whole thing was pretty upsetting. I'd had that account for many years, going back to when I first got onto the internet. They sent me a survey, asking me what I thought of Hotmail (!), and asking if I would ever consider opening up another Hotmail account. My reply was no. I told them it would help if there was a way for person's whose accounts had been hacked to have a second chance at answering their own security questions, since hackers probably wouldn't be able to answer correctly. I never heard anything back from them.

Good luck in squashing the unwanted email accounts. I know from experience that old email addys can sometimes cause trouble with current accounts. (I experienced that with Paypal).

Truely, the internet is both bane and blessing.

It is moi....love_mykatz.

An arse kicking from you would be pretty hard to take.

Nonetheless, thank you for the re-welcoming.

I feel pretty about this whole fiasco. Should've written down the password change last year. Then I wouldn't be dealing with this.

CalPeg says I can email Skinner at any time. How would I check into that? I would like to get this fixed, if it is possible.

Thanks for the reply, Skittles.
