Once Per Day, an American Kid Brings a Gun to School
In the first half of the academic year — from late August, when many districts started classes, to January 15, when many concluded the second report-card period — there were at least 135 incidents in which elementary, middle, and high school students were caught bringing guns into America’s schools. The number is an update to The Trace’s reporting in November, which found 77 such incidents in the first three months of the school year. All told, a handgun has been discovered in the possession of a child more than once a school day.

Seattle Police Arrest 3 Boys in Deadly Shooting at Homeless Camp
Three teenage boys were arrested in Seattle on Monday in connection with a shooting last week at a homeless encampment known as the Jungle that left two people dead, the police said.
The suspects, ages 13, 16 and 17, were arrested at a homeless encampment under an Interstate 90 off-ramp, said the Seattle police chief, Kathleen O’Toole. They were being interviewed by homicide investigators on Monday evening and were to be booked at the Youth Service Center for investigation of homicide, the police said.
