4 Dead, 24 Wounded in Weekend Chicago Violence

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/4-dead-24-wounded-weekend-chicago-violence-n96851

At least 28 people have been shot in Chicago, four of them fatally, since Friday afternoon, police said.

The weekend’s latest homicide took place around 11:35 p.m. when police said a man was shot in the back in the 9200 block of South Emerald Avenue. The man, whose age was not immediately known, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Area South detectives are investigating the shooting, but further details were not immediately available, police said.

About 15 minutes earlier, two men were shot in the 7300 block of South Oglesby Avenue. An 18-year-old man suffered a wound to the leg and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition. A 28-year-old man was shot in the back and transported to South Shore Hospital in serious condition, officials said.

Where are all of the "good guys with a gun?" Wasn't Chicago gun violence supposed to be caused by strict gun control laws? Are the guns being used still coming from surrounding areas with lax gun laws?

Support a gun control organization of your choice today in any way that you can. The future of our children depends on your actions to defeat the right-wing gun lobby and those who profit from it.

shot but didn't die don't count in your book? Do you actually believe that relaxed gun laws in Chicago is the cause of things "getting better?" Really? Your question, "Chicago needs to do something, but what?" is right out of the NRA/Gungeon scripted talking point of attempting to deflect the blame for gun violence on anyone but the right-wing gun lobby.

There is no one quick fix for the gun violence problem in this nation, and Chicago is just a very visible symptom. The answer lies in defeating the right-wing gun lobby and their marketing arm, the NRA. We need universal and stringent background checks before anyone can purchase a lethal weapon. We need local permitting to purchase, and meaningful waiting periods. In short, we need to raise the standards nationwide for purchasing a firearm, and make them more difficult to obtain.

The Constitution does not preclude limiting and regulating the Second Amendment, and when compared to the other civil rights enumerated by the Bill of Rights, is the only one with the potential cause instant death. We should not treat the "right" to bear arms with the same latitude as we treat the "right" to free speech. Hate speech does not kill, but a hateful person with a gun can, and often does, cause death and injury.

points, which leads me to believe that you are here to disrupt this Group. The "tough gun laws" in Chicago have been mostly overturned by recent NRA lawsuits, and I suspect that you know that.

Chicago guns involved in gang violence there have been documented by the Chicago police as coming from nearby counties and states with lax firearm laws, and that is a problem all over this nation.

If you are not here to support gun control, and contribute to the solution, I suggest that you enjoy your short stay in this safe haven Group.

yeoman: You practically can't own a gun in Chicago. They have some of the toughs gun laws

This is baloney; even when Chicago's handgun ban was in effect people could still own rifles & longguns, which turns your above remark into misinformation &/or disinformation as well as a misleading rightwing talking point - pick on Chicago & ignore the STINK in progun city's backyards, those with comparable or higher crime & guncrime than Chicago (like Houston, Chattanooga, richmondva, Memphis & more).
And where have you been? their handgun ban was overturned 2010, that's 4 years back, & people are 'flocking' to get foids (just ask the gunnuts on rkba board) so chicagoans can buy guns (I heard the pink pistols want a pink foyd).
In fact, the recent surge from 400 murders per year to 500 last year was AFTER Chicagoans were allowed handguns in Chicago, & thousands did. So it's more like MORE GUNS MORE MURDERS.
I also think chicago's violent crime rate went down ~10% the very year the murder spiked to 500, so it's like what's up doc.

And it is a progressive city with Democratic everything.. something needs to be done.

Chicago (FLASH) is the 3rd largest populated city in America, so their weekly & monthly crime totals will of course tend to be higher than smaller cities. But their crime rate, which is the better way to compare cities, is generally on a par with other large pro gun cities, like Houston.
New York city has low violent crime rate, about 400/100k iirc, which is one of the lowest violent crime rates of the ~35 large American cities > 500,000.
