4. Platitudes, and too many to remember. I've suggested these ....

1. Enrich and expand Social Security

2. Medicare for All

3. Living wage

Easily remembered, easily understood.

6. What is the "Story"... the narrative?

What is the endgame? The vision?
What is the problem?
What or who is the obstacle?

The platform needs to explain the problem,
the causes, the status quo, and the solution.

Why isn't the "democratic party" already "for the people"?
Why aren't all people "equal"?
Why isn't the govt. "working for the people"?

What myth, beliefs or world view maintains the status quo?
We need to identify and analyze the"why"
before you can say who or how to make any change.

Analysis is the most powerful tool for change.

8. Unfortunately, corporate backed politics with their think tanks,

paid pundits, MSM themes, etc., test messages like that with focus groups until the message is exactly right, then they write the scripts for their go-to politicians to speechify and woo the masses with, and they choose some damn good actors to recite the lines. The best actors, paid in the 10's of $millions$. After their politicians/actors win on those hopes and promises, they pull the plug on that bullshit and tell their politicians/tools what to do -- and what they tell their politicians/tools to do has nothing whatsoever to do with what those politicians/tools actually said in the phony "election".

You want a pony with that, or a magic wand? Wait in line, sucker.

They don't even bother to hide it anymore. They're getting the slate ready to do the same thing in '16, and even the people who hold their noses to vote will be wondering why the fuck they're still playing along with the game.

I've heard people say they've become "cynical", it's gotten so bad. But the people banging their heads against the wall in frustration at the massive betrayal haven't become cynical, they were *burned* over and over again and they've become skeptical, they've become disbelievers in politicians with their pretty words, their tweedledum/tweedledee political parties -- it's the politicians/actors who are the cynics. It's their go-to pundits.

It isn't about words, not even if the words are set to music, not even if there's a video of it with a happy bounding dog and several cute kittens posing in artless disarray to give it the total feel-good backdrop.

It's about doing, walking the walk.

Elizabeth Warren is the best hope I can see, at the present time, for taking a sledge hammer and punching a hole in the wall.

I just hope and pray for her safety.

9. I think it's a dual approach

Get the right candidates with a people's message. Obama and Clinton were unknowns with hopeful messages. Warren and Sanders are becoming known with people's principles and issues. HRC is an open book and only a few will fall a revision of history.

IMO we've got to get shoes on the ground. Many are disillusioned, frustrated and mostly immune to the whole process. They have been ignored and forgotten and we HAVE TO reignite the passion.

After being burnt so many times, we must let them know they are not alone. Misery loves company, but a genuine movement solidifies one by one.

10. I support a single approach that busts the fucking liars and manipulators.

That busts the politicians that give democracy a bad name.

For example:

11. If only more would listen, a tidal wave.

Sawant a rising star, is stepping-up as more populist voices are seeking to be heard.

I agree the cloak of Dictator-loving dems has to be removed but we must also bring the ignored audience back into the picture. If we've got real dems speaking out, why can't we help by expanding the listening base?

12. I'm in agreement with your sentiments.

I think you care.

What I've learned is that it isn't at all about talk, about sound bites, about slogans, and in fact too much attention paid to slogans and smart talk can deliver whole countries, even the most powerful of them, into the hands of the "ministers of truth".

There's something about the ministers of truth that often isn't noticed. The ministry of truth doesn't really give a damn about what actually *is* truth, it cares only about knowing what the captive population wants to be truth, then delivering words, a world view or narrative that serves that need. The ministry of truth has complete control of all parts of that process.

Yes, Virginia, this includes the tweedledum/tweedledee "pundits" on all the MSM channels.
Your "most trusted name in NEWS" candidate.
This includes the "think tanks" that provide academic/professional appraisals for all the MSM channels.
Already, that's quite a bit, considering that the average "local channel" that might not be totally controlled is likely fighting for its life.

13. I do care

I try to think from the heart.

The "ministry of truth" can be broken apart by revealing specific actions. The Sawant speech was words and slogans but she stressed pro-people, anti-PTB issues. Her actions to date gives the PURE truth of where she stands.

You can feed the people rotten truths only for so long before the stench and vomit of their shills becomes repulsive.

You sure about that?

White male voters won't respond to being lied to
by slimy politicians and their billionaire masters?
Bubba won't get mad about being manipulated
like a mark in a con game? He don't have an ego?

17. Thats almost backwards

why can't we help by expanding the listening base?

The "listening base" needs to be heard, not lectured or "inspired"
Find out what their "pain" is about.
THEN, using their experience, create the message and sell the vision.

If it's low wages, crushing debt, and lack of opportunity
that is behind their suffering speaking of "freedom" or voting
won't resonate the same as talk of living wages, debt relief
and public infrastructure development jobs.

Messaging needs to adress the "listeners" pain, fear and hope.
That's why right-winger messaging is so successful.
It focuses on fear, loathing of the "other" and imagined opportunity.

21. IMO, reawakening the voters

to the new populism is step one. Only when they become aware that real "listeners" have emerged will they again invest time and energy and speak-up.

They have voiced their opinions on deaf ears for way to long.

16. Great idea, but...

Why isn't that the case right now?

Why aren't we unified?
Who are the dividers?

Why aren't voters motivated?
What is wrong with the elections?

Why don't people think candidates have principles?
WHY DON"T candidate SEEM to have principles?
hint: they have principles, just no the ones they say out loud!

What is corporate control?
What is the story "they" tell to justify their control?

THAT is the story that need to be told before you can
sell people on OUR dream.

If people still buy the 1% storyline, they don't need yours.
Change is scary. Emotion trumps reason.

20. Maybe I should call this our intro letter

When I go out to contact people face to face, I don't want to present a 10 page letter defining everything in itsy-bitsy details. IMO that multi-page letter is headed directly to the round file.

I want something short and sweet with TNT inside. Simple and catchy that defines the true Democratic Party for the people.

Once we've got their attention, let the fine details weave into a complete picture.

22. platforms are not slogans

but we all want slogans because they encapsulate and permit us to be 'members' of that tribe.

So looking at the platform, it is so "me-generation" repelling me.

I think we should instead speak primarily about WEALTH this cycle; much of the OP platform falls into one of four categories as follows.

We believe in a federal government that
* grows the COMMON WEALTH
* grows our ECONOMIC WEALTH
* grows our POLITICAL WEALTH
* grows our SOCIAL WEALTH

This is ready made for lots of debate... because barriers need be (easily) identified and (strategically) then torn down.

23. IMO,

aren't "grows the COMMON WEALTH"..etc slogans?

I will take a closer look but I was trying to present a WE-generation.Maybe we could change the word "OUR" if this doesn't have a we feeling.

What's the difference between COMMON WEALTH and SOCIAL WEALTH?

ECONOMIC WEALTH and POLITICAL WEALTH will surely fester debate from all sides. I feel that presenting Populist candidates with a left-listening agenda will unify and leave the Blue Dogs gasping for breath.
