Gloria Steinem: "Young women support Sanders to attract men"

Maybe I'm not up and up on the front lines of Gender activism, but isn't Gloria Steinem engaging in slut shaming? I read her words and just read "You only support Sanders because you're a filthy WHORE! SLUT!" among other things. Beyond the laugh-ability of this charge, that female Sanderites are in it for sex with male Sanderites, I suppose she thinks women under 45 are en-mass FeelingTheBern somewhere down south?

“So it’s kind of not fair to measure most women by the standard of most men, because they’re going to get more activist as they get older,” she added.

“And when you’re young, you’re thinking, ‘Where are the boys?’ The boys are with Bernie.”

Maher joked that if he had chalked up Bernie’s support among young women to their desire to meet boys, Steinem would have slapped him.

She supports Sanders (we both went to the caucus together for Sanders). My older daughter, a college senior, is engaged and supports Sanders even though her fiance is conservative and did not caucus in either party.

This is really an offensive comment. I plan to ask my daughters about it.

Still not as offensive as saying your eternal soul is dammed if you do not vote for Clinton.

Albright and Steinem are not helping. There are a lot of things that they could have said to help Clinton. They have hurt their prestige with these comments.

In the fall of 1996, locked in a tough re-election fight against Republican Susan Sweetser, then-Rep. Sanders got a big boost when feminist writer and activist Gloria Steinem came to Burlington. At the time, Sweetser was running negative ads attacking Sanders' liberal positions, and so the Sanders campaign held an event to highlight his support among progressive women. An opening act, a former state senator, told the audience that "a feminist is a person who challenges the power structure of our country" and "Bernie Sanders is that kind of feminist." When it was Steinem's turn, she started off with an announcement: "I'm only here today to make Bernie Sanders an honorary woman."

In his memoir, Outsider in the House, Sanders, who went on to beat Sweetser comfortably, called the event "the nicest moment of the campaign."

Hillary is her friend and doing a favor to her friend. Plus its hard to rationalize an explanation for why Hillary isn't literally being heralded by all women everywhere as the reincarnation of Gaia and every female Goddess ever from history.

The Rationalizations are strong with Steinem and indeed the whole Hillary camp. The fact that young women aren't falling in line is not surprising, but for them it is shocking.

As a woman I am deeply offended by the statements made by both Steinem and Albright.
That as a woman I shouldn't have a choice in who I vote for? That if I choose to vote for anybody except Hillary I'm thinking with my libido and not my head. The heart vs. head thing was bad enough, but this?

Your wrong Hillary, if I was voting with my heart and not my head I would vote for you because you are a woman. Instead I'm voting for someone who speaks to me not at me. Someone who realizes that my rights as a woman can never be fulfilled until my rights as a human being are. That under the current status quo I will never realize the economic freedoms my parents did and that my children are destined to be impoverished. I weep for my grandchildren, for their future is bleak at best.

What the hell has happened to the leaders of woman from my youth? Fine wines can turn to vinegar.

I've admired Gloria Steinem all my life. Until now. Now, she is dead to me. She can cry on Hillary's shoulder when Ms. Inevitable loses the primaries and becomes yet another "could'a been a contenda". They can wipe their eyes on all their money, before Bernie raises the tax rates and they have to start paying for all that privilege they've enjoyed off our backs.

Fuck her, fuck Madeline Albright, and fuck anybody else who thinks they can tell me how to vote (are your ears ringing, not-so-dear ex husband?). My vagina and I have made our choice, thank you very much.
