Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumAbout Bernie and gun control. I need some facts.
I want to launch a get to know Bernie movement in my county by doing some tabling at farmers' markets and other public gatherings. However, I need some hard facts on his position on gun ownership as a nationwide policy he might have. I know in Vermont, being mostly rural, gun ownership is an almost sacred right, so Bernie has been very low key in his policy about it. However, in a state like California, we aren't so fond of lax gun laws.
What exactly are the rules for purchasing and selling guns in Vermont and what would Bernie's position about it be for the rest of the nation? Howard Dean, another Vermonter, once said he would leave gun ownership laws to the states rather than the Feds. What does Bernie think or a good guess on what he would think?
I'm trying to figure out what questions I may be asked and want to be prepared.

(10,345 posts)he's very reasonable on gun control in my opinion.

(26,795 posts)Apparently, it would hold a gun manufacturer liable if their product were used in a crime.
I had a hard time with that. If it met standards and was legally sold, I don't understand what's at issue.

(9,086 posts)But here's my spiel:
Bernie has voted in support of common sense gun control measures.
He voted to expand background checks, and for a ban on assault weapons. He also voted to ban high-capacity magazines of over 10 bullets. He did earn an F or D- rating from the NRA, indicating a pro-gun control voting record.
Still he has not been a gun control extremist, in the sense of wanting to ban all guns. He has avoided levying undue burdens on gun owners and legal firearms.
