Bernie Sanders

Sanders' wealthiest contributors don't care much about the delegate deficit. What matters to them is the senator's ability to reshape the Democratic Party agenda.Forget about the Southern losses, the struggles with African-American voters and the big delegate deficit. Bernie Sanders wealthiest donors want him to continue fighting on, all the way to the July Democratic convention.
That wont come as welcome news to the Clinton campaign and its allies, who point to the nearly insurmountable delegate lead Hillary Clinton has amassed theyd like to begin the pivot to the general election. But the relatively small group of pro-Sanders millionaires doesnt care. In their view, its crazy to concede now that the Vermont senator is beginning to string together wins in places as varied as Maine, Colorado and Oklahoma.
"What people need to understand is that Bernie started off as an unknown. As more and more people learn about him he gets more and more converts. Just look at the national graph of likely Bernie voters vs Clinton voters. Momentum is with Bernie and against Hillary. Now they are just about even. Soon Bernie will surpass Hillary," said Ben Cohen, the millionaire co-founder of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. "Clearly the mood of the country for Republicans, Democrats and Independents is anti-the-Washington establishment. That bodes well for Bernie and quite poorly for Hillary."
The wealthy Sanders supporters who have given the maximum $2,700 donation for the primary election arent necessarily focused on the senators chances of winning the nomination. Rather, like the small donors who provide 70 percent of his cash, theyre motivated by his message on economic inequality and poverty and see as playing an important role in remaking the presidential conversation and the Democratic Party going forward.

(14,733 posts)I think the world is most likely already doomed, but if there is any chance at all of humanity and other large species surviving the latest extinction event, it's going to require Bernie and like-minded successors pushing to end fracking, leave fossil fuels in the ground.

(2,586 posts)regardless of the delegate math. the message and that last phrase about "the Democratic Party going forward" are absolutely paramount. Sure a Sanders presidency would be SO MUCH BETTER than our other choices, but the campaign is crucial in any case.
The existence of some ongoing coherent body (like the Rainbow Coalition was) that speaks to the progressive impulses of the Democratic Party is absolutely key. Over time there would be plenty of issues to broaden the coalition under an HRC presidency. That is one of the great benefits of ANY Democrat over even the most reasonable Republican let alone a Trump. This mobilization of the progressive Democrats should be a 24/7 development in ALL years, not just election years, and Bernie Sanders could very well promote that crucial voice

(1,508 posts)but I will continue to donate as long as I can. I will donate to any cause he decides to take up, even if he doesn't win the nomination. I refuse to let this be the last of what Senator Sanders is trying to do for this country. NO SURRENDER.....NO DEFEAT....NO END.
