Read your ballot. If it says choose 5 delegates, there may be 6 on the list for Bernie. Don't spoil your ballot!!!

(11,360 posts)Is there any particular criteria for which delegates to choose when this happens?

(10,493 posts)If you were to circle two bubbles under president, the scanner would reject the ballot for a stated reason (Overvote). The election judge at the machine would inform the voter that they have the option of correcting the error. If so, they get the old ballot and new ballot, and go back to the booth. He fills out a new ballot (only reading it carefully to see where he made an error). Then he runs the correct ballot through the machine, and gives the spoiled ballot to the head judge. If he decides he doesn't want to fix it, the person hits an override button, and the machine counts the ballot without the overvotes. The president votes would not be counted on that ballot, because it could not be determined who the candidate wanted.
Same would be said for delegates. If you circle more bubbles than you are supposed to, (there were 9 options on mine, 4/clinton, 5/sanders - pick 4) it's going to trigger the alarm.
If you undervote, you just go about your business, it's accepted. Like say for a local school board election, pick 4 and there are 8 people running. I may only pick the 3 I really want to improve their odds, vs just adding someone to fill in the 4th bubble. 3 votes will be counted, and no 4th added.

(10,565 posts)She lives in IL, I don't. She voted for Bernie, but didn't vote for any of the delegates. Does her vote for Bernie still count?

(628 posts)Hillary had 4 and Bernie had 5. Bernie chose to add an additional in case someone dropped out.
