Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumBernie for VP nominee?
I used to have no doubt that Bernie as H's VP nominee was utter madness.
But in a thread just found on DU, my reply has me thinking otherwise

Read the whole thread if you haven't already. It's a good one.
Anyway, in the BoB scenario, making Bernie the VP, if denied the outright nomination, has its benefits, being that things are rapidly evolving legal wise, and a republican congress first order of business with H as prez is going to be where they left off the last time a Clinton was president.
To be clear, this scenario is only in play if the party makes a mistake and nominates H. It should do the right thing and Bernie becomes the nominee. If it doesn't act correctly, then plan B is Bernie as our VP nominee, because there is a good chance he will then become president!

(13,685 posts)Thank you Stevie
You just gave the best reason ever for making Bernie the VP candidate if Clinton somehow manages to be the nominee.
Quote: "...whoever that nominee is, were to step down after the convention then their running-mate would be moved up and become the nominee."
That would mean Bernie will be the nominee!! Fantastic!!
Whatever it takes to get Bernie in as president, I am all for.
And if H did get the nomination and then somehow beat Trump and the congress impeaches her, well, Bernie becomes president. I like how you think, Stevie. If Bernie gets beat out of the nomination, he has to become H's VP. I hope all the BoBs understand this.

(12,685 posts)Yeah, that would really work wonders.
Wobbly Warren seems much better suited for that role.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)I don't know why you would make Bernie into a prop.
And then you slam Warren? Hmmmm....
Skwmom
(12,685 posts)burning. Her embracing Clinton's stupid "blame it on the regulators" big bank plan and her voting for corporate welfare spoke volumes about what kind of progressive Warren is.

(3,247 posts)that I deleted a post of a Salon article proposing this scenario rather than witness more escalating hatefulness in GD-P
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)But it sure is an good alternate scenario that could be seen as plan B if the establishment really wants to refuse Bernie's offer to lead in front.

(5,191 posts)Hillary doesn't want him and he doesen't want to be VP. It ain't happening!
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)It's not a bad position to be in given the likelihood of things spiraling out of the Clinton's control.
It certainly would help beat Trump, too!

(517 posts)The problem in my mind is that if Bernie is VP, she will probably be neck deep in immoral unethical, if not flat out illegal shit and will probably try to make Bernie the fall guy. I don't want him within arms length of her. I totally get where you are coming from and I have mulled it over. I just don't see how it could work.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)No doubt a post such as this will not be allowed in a couple of weeks here on DU.
It is a plan B fallback, an if that then this, and politically suave move.
Bernie has not refused to be considered as VP. So there is that. I trust Bernie to have figured stuff thoroughly.

winter is coming
(11,785 posts)even knowing that she'd push Bernie well off to one side.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)For one, it will help the party unify.
winter is coming
(11,785 posts)Clintons, nor will they be happy if Hillary clings to the Presidency throughout a prolonged impeachment process. Hillary people won't be happy about Bernie continuing to advocate for the things he believes in, many of which are diametrically opposed to Hillary's priorities, nor will they be happy about his replacing her, should that become necessary.

(10,345 posts)But it would probably nullify Bernie's objectives.

(349 posts)Bernie needs to run as an indie if he is stripped of the democratic nomination.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)He's promised not to run a 3rd party campaign.
I trust his promises.

(11,546 posts)it would make him really unpopular with Dems
winter is coming
(11,785 posts)they are now for that to be even remotely possible. I think Bernie means it when he says he doesn't want Trump to be President, and I also think he keeps his word.

(465 posts)I expect Hillary will pick whichever politician her pollsters and other advisors say will help her the most against the GOP ticket. If they say only a Clinton/Sanders ticket can beat Trump/Monster, then she'll ask Bernie.
Then I put down the bong, and reality set in. Hillary will pick some other corporate Democrat as VP of course.

(2,872 posts)I just said this myself to someone the other day.. it would be an epic landslide win for the Dems.. But unfortunately too many factors won't allow it to pass..
Hillarys ego won't allow it - how can she have a VP with better policy ideas sitting to the "left" of her
The DNC won't allow it - their fragile ego has also been exposed this primary season with DWS leading the pack
The Clinton campaign owes way too many favors and tagging Bernie will be a betrayal to those that have funded/ supported her candidacy
Bernie might feel it is a way for the DNC to kill/quell the movement that he has begun and turn it down anyway - remember, keep your friends close & keep your enemies closer - Prez Obama used this tactic in 2008.
The VP choice (choices floated out) are going to be very telling at this point... anything short of a liberal/progressive will not cut it in my opinion.. the Democratic party is at a precipice and this will be the defining choice of whether they plan to move on with or without us..
