http://www.democraticunderground.com/10141245359Quote from the Bloomberg article:
Based on a memo from campaign manager Robby Mook and delegate figures provided by the Democratic National Committee, Bloomberg Politics estimates Hillary Clinton has well over 500 superdelegate commitments, putting her even closer to securing the minimum number needed to win the party's nomination before ordinary voters cast a single ballot in a caucus or primary.
Today, Hillary has more support from superdelegates than all the pledged delegates awarded in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina, and a third of delegates awarded on Super Tuesday combined, Mook said in the memo, which was sent to supporters on Tuesday and obtained by Bloomberg. (Politico reported on the memo earlier Wednesday.)
That confirms my suspicion that the Clintons, and the Clintonistas on DU, are willing to say: "to Hell with democracy! We want a coronation!"
If Bernie goes into the convention with a strong lead, and Hillary turns it around with the superdelegates, we are going to lose a lot of the formerly disillusioned young people that Bernie brought back into the system.

Yeah, if Hillary wins nomination because of this superdelegate business alone... I'll just think, "Well, the electoral college decides the general and the superdelegates decide the primary. FUCK MY VOTE."

(10,345 posts)I've never voted before...
Why would I want my first vote to be for the one that DIDN'T inspire me to vote for the first time in my life?
Bernie gave me hope and passion, and I wonder, even if it doesn't go his way, should I give him the vote he inspired me with to begin with?

(17,469 posts)I am on record on DU as supporting Bernie, but I object to the use of the term "Clintonista". We should never lower ourselves to using Rush Limbaugh's vernacular.
And yes, they may call us names, but I would hope we were better than that.

(3,859 posts)precedent with President Obama and Superdelegates. That was done democratically. But if they go the other way, (i.e. Bernie wins more regular delegates, but Superdelegates stick with Hillary) then all bets are off and we are in a state of political war in the Democratic Party.

(1,190 posts)Hillary and her supporters, This is total proof the electoral system itself is rigged and being manipulated by corporations / politicians , I am beginning to wonder just how much longer the 99percent can stand for a country that is both financially and electoral rigged against them ever making progressive change for better lives?

Two Virgin Island Superdelegates Endorse Barack Obama; Delegate Countdown - 157 To Go
Virgin Island superdelegates Carole Burke and Kevin Rodriquez endorsed Barack Obama today. Rodriquez had previously backed Senator Clinton but decided to switch his endorsement, citing Obamas ability to unite the Democratic Party and win the White House:
While I have great respect for Senator Clinton, today I am announcing my support for Barack Obama. Senator Obama has brought a new generation and energy into the democratic process and the Democratic Party. He has shown he can connect with Democrats, Republicans and Independents across this country, whether we live on the mainland or an island. Senator Obamas judgment to lead, courage to tell the truth and commitment to working men and women make him the best candidate to lead this country forward.
274 superdelegates have now endorsed Barack Obama and 122 have endorsed since February 5. Obama is 157 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.
More than one thing to take away from that. Notice how many waited till February, and even later. If Clinton's people are pushing for endorsements now, and are willing to take on the not very democratic looking optics that comes from that, it's because they have serious doubts as to how their campaign will weather the primary season. Doesn't speak well of our party's establishment either.
Just do away with the process, but everyone should be thrilled to vote in the general election for the one they picked before a single primary result is in. That's a self defeating way to run a party. Though for many it's not primarily about us, the voters, it's about them, the leadership.
