To maximize profit. To make as much money as possible while giving as little value back as possible.

Profits could be cut quite a bit in order to pay labor more, ensure safe working conditions and a good benefits package. Profits could also be cut just a little to ensure consumers actually get a decent value instead of the old capitalist rip off. Take a jar of peanut butter for instance. Remember when jars used to be just jars? Now they have a huge bubble on the bottom rising up maybe an inch into the jar. Why? Less product at the same price equals higher profits. Yogurt used to come in a six ounce cup. But now it is 5.3 ounces and they charge twice as much for it.

The right wingnuts have identified the wrong enemy. It isn't government. It is unrestrained neoliberal 'free market' capitalism.

When TPP goes into play things will really get worse.

there has to be citizens somewhere in the world making decent money in order to buy their products. The rich buying from the rich alone just ain't gonna cut it unless they want to go back to Feudalism.

The more people making good money, the more people spending money, the more robust the economy is. That's basic demand side economics (the one that actually works).

People buying stuff is what gets and keeps our economy going. The more people buying stuff, the more taxes the various governments take in to provide services and maintain the infrastructure.
Keeping people in poverty hurts everyone. Paying them a fair wage, a living wage for their labors, helps everyone.

"If my company pays my workers more, that increases my labor costs, which is bad." <-- micro
"If everybody pays their workers more, my customers can afford to spend more at my business, which means I'll have to hire more workers." <-- macro

Workers = customers. That's what they keep forgetting.

They aren't capable of seeing the big picture. Only the here and now. Neither do they understand economics to any real extent.

I know on the college loan debt problem she said she tell the states in no uncertain terms to "cut it out" referring to raising tuition rates. Or was that the NASDEQ? And cutting SS (enhancing) isn't off the table. She is taking a hard stand on fracking. She would recommend a phase out of fracking on some federal land some time between now and..... Well she didn't say when.

as in beef and lettuce and whatever should be cheaper in a place that is more agricultural. And real estate probably costs less in many US locations. Does anyone have the breakdown of all the costs involved or at least the percentage that is labor?

The difference can't just be in profit. That seems unlikely.
