Bernie Sanders

When candidates are out on the road they need a nice warm place to stay right? Apparently some candidates need more comforts than others though when they are out there on the campaign trail.
The FECs latest available filings breakdown nicely what each candidate is spending for everything on their campaign. On one hand you have Hillary Clinton who spends nearly 20% of her lodging dollars on Luxury hotels including nine times at Ritz-Carlton. But guess who the only candidate to stay in a Motel 6 is? If you guessed Bernie Sanders youd be correct. Yes the same guy that flies coach also stays in Economy Hotels most of the time, in fact he hasnt stayed in a Luxury hotel one time during this campaign.

I know you're a man of the people. I know it's REAL.
But you don't need to stay in a motel 6 to prove it.
I wouldn't wish a motel 6 on my worst enemy.
At least stay in a Holiday Inn or a La Quinta. Hell, even a Microtel...
You can keep flying coach.
You can ride around in regular cars... But please...
Don't stay in a motel 6.

(102,283 posts)and yes, I am very aware that some 4 star hotels (and probabl 5 star) have been infested in the past. Still, I do think the risk is higher for those of us who have to frequent the usual lower priced fare available on road trips.

Well they used to! Myself and a fellow employee, stayed in one in Phoenix for a month, in 1984, while we were in training for 3 months (with no pay!)
It was pretty gruesome plain at the time.
But hey, just saw an add on TV this week...they are renovating!

(4,234 posts)Even when I've had plenty to afford a better accommodation, I have usually opted for the cheaper choice. Why pay more? There's nothing wrong with a Motel 6. They're clean, comfortable, and provide everything you need. From listening to Bernie talk about his family's hassles with money when he was growing up, I suspect it's just habit for him, something ingrained by repetition, and inspired by the example of his father. That explains it in my case anyway and I suspect in Bernie's.

(794 posts)You get a bed, a bathroom, 'free' soap/shampoo, a TV, a clock radio, a bedside light, what more do you need? If you share with a partner and sex, fancier bedspreads and pillows count for nothing.
Even the most expensive ones don't provide an easy-to-find channel line up, and the worst of them allow only Fox and block MSNBC. And then charge $25/day for WiFi connection! +parking $.
Increasingly, the room controls are so obscure/complicated, we can't control the temperature, wind, the curtains. Even with the help of a Giddeon Bible.
