Kamala Harris Falls Out of Top Tier

June 3, 2019 at 11:32 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Los Angeles Times: “There is a prevalent sense that for all her seeming potential, California’s charismatic U.S. senator has fallen short of expectation. The disappointment, observers say, stems in part from Harris’ failure to present a compelling case for her candidacy beyond her background as a prosecutor, her buoyant personality and a deep contempt — shared by others in the contest — for Trump.”

“Backers say Harris’ slow-and-steady approach is the right one for this early stage of the campaign, arguing that consistency on the trail and fundraising matter more than catchy sound bites or viral moments.”

This notion isn't being reported elsewhere; it's not poll based.

And be sure to note that it claims prominently that the frontrunners are Biden and Sanders! Oh, really? Turns out that's based on a California poll, weaving between talking locally and nationally according to what pushes the meme. We all know Sanders is failing nationally. He's far from out altogether, of course, but Democrats don't like him and a plane would have to fall on the debate stage two nights running, leaving him alone alive, for him to have a chance to win the nomination against the new candidates who would then step forward.

Yes, Biden's entry hurt Senator Harris, along with all the others. Yes, she isn't pulling farther ahead nationally. And there's discussion that she isn't sweeping her home state of California, but the intentions of any who claim that bar for her to fail should be questioned.

After that headline the most solid current info in the article is this:

Polling gives Harris high favorability marks and shows voters are curious to learn more about her. She continues to draw strong turnout in early primary states, and her crisp performance in an MSNBC town hall Tuesday night drew 2.2 million viewers, the second-highest-rated televised candidate forum so far.

After dazzling debut, Kamala Harris falls from top of presidential pack

https://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-kamala-harris-campaign-california-20190531-story.html

But as she returns to the Bay Area this weekend for the annual state Democratic Party convention — along with 13 other candidates eager to fight on her home turf — Harris no longer dazzles quite so much.

Rather, there is a prevalent sense that for all her seeming potential, California’s charismatic U.S. senator has fallen short of expectation.

or any of the rest. OF course, she doesn't "dazzle" as much. Unfortunate, but it's no longer the kickoff and she has competition from a crowd of candidates who are also being scrutinized. And, frankly, I'm coming to doubt any woman will win this year.

Questions, let's just admit a subjective media hit when we see it. This is one of the abundance of articles that reports real news but biased one way or another depending on the candidate. Covering Hillary trained a nation of journalists in how to provide the negative slant required to stay safely within the pack and satisfy their employers.

So, just who has this "prevalent sense" that Harris is falling and Bernie Sanders is #2 after Biden? (!) The voters of California or this guy who has to turn out a quota of clickable articles each week? And who, interestingly, used this one to dishonestly puff Sanders near the top of the page?

The article, glaringly, fails to provide it.

I don't contest that Harris is not dazzling, only the one that she is falling. The article itself admits voters are very interested in her. Approximately 22 other candidates would kill for that.

From the stats I've seen, Kamala Harris is rocking between third and fourth place in the pack. Elizabeth Warren has recently nudged Harris with her own uptick in polling but both are behind Biden and Sanders.

Still too early to assign 'fallen short of expectation' quotes. I'm guessing Harris will do very well in the forthcoming debates. We're likely to see considerable movement then. Right now everyone appears to be in a holding position.

Front runners Biden and Sanders are better known nationally. That is at least part of the reason they're in front. I like both of them so I do not say that to demean them.

Kamala is about where I would expect her to be at this juncture of the primary largely because of a lack of name recognition. She's in the top four out of 24 candidates. That is hardly a position of doom and gloom before we've even had our first debate.

My only slight surprise is Elizabeth Warren is ahead of her. I like Elizabeth and I think she's doing well. I thought Trump's Pocahontas stuff had hurt her. I just expected Kamala to be in Elizabeth's position at this point. But it is so early, they're both in good positions to compete.

The article kind of felt like an unfair hit piece.

Warren now. That could change, but Harris has been a little too cautious. I fully understand why she might feel the need to be cautious, but we've got an illegitimate president saying and tweeting whatever he wants--no matter how ignorant, vile or cruel. So why should any of our candidates be afraid to speak their truth, proudly, forcefully, with ZERO f*cks given??
