Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMarianne Williamson was on PBSNewaHour yesterday
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/why-marianne-williamson-thinks-she-can-defeat-trump#transcriptAll I could do was groan and roll my eyes.
She appears like many good citizens who follow the news and express their opinions.
She wants to touch people with love. From the transcript:
And the only way to do that is to touch people's hearts. You know, the part of the brain that rationally analyzes an issue is not the same part of the brain that decides who to vote for.
Donald Trump has had a psychological effect on people. He has had an effect on the human psyche within people, but it's very dark, and it is not amenable to change by strictly rational argument.
I am someone who has had a career moving audiences. I'm someone who has had a career moving crowds and moving movements. I have a sense of what he has done. And the only way to defeat big lies is with some big truth.
And so the skill he has, the light side of that is what I can do.

Give me a break. This is not a new age gathering. You have to have some experience in running things. At least Trump had his TV program and a beauty show where he was in charge, I think.
But then, if we have a TV personality sitting in the White House, why not a love guru?

why is she going to be on the debates and not the fucking governor of Montana ?
i think if someone is governor that should be enough to get on the debates. same goes for Senator and maybe some other offices .

(297,190 posts)not being fair that the twice elected Democratic Governor of Montana, that "trump carried by 20 points", might not be on the debate stage, and a popular spiritual guru will.
Again call me crazy but I want someone who will beat trump.. that's all I care about.. and start putting our Country and Planet back together on Day 1.
At least Steve Bullock has the Gubernatorial experience and winning elections in a swing state!

(17,108 posts)coherent, well-informed, and courageously supporting positions that other Democratic candidates are waffling on.
Curious, I went over to her official campaign website, and can't really find anything to oppose there. She probably won't win the nomination, but I'm certainly advocating for her as a voice to be heard. I hope she gets more, and better, exposure.
Start with the "My Story" page, and read it all the way to the bottom.

(4 posts)Marianne is a fierce and fearless Progressive. She expresses what I believe more directly and clearly than any other candidate. She is extremely articulate and she doesn't put up with any bs from the people who interview her. She has reasoned opinions and positions on the topics and she expresses them directly, coherently, and, most of all, persuasively. She shows how dysfunctional and psychotic our political and economic systems have become. She has written seven New York Times best-selling books, four of them were number one. She has wide name recognition. She taps into the goodness of people, and therefore, her candidacy is attractive to a wide range of people, across all sorts of political and economic boundaries. She calls out people who have stopped participating in our democracy and insists that they get back in the game - and she gives them a reason to.
I don't know if Marianne has a reasonable chance of getting elected president, but I know that having her in the debates will change the conversation for the better dramatically. She will bring the discussion to a higher level. This can only be good. Those democratic candidates who are stuck in an outdated mindset, who have sold their souls to the big donors, who don't really believe in Progressive values, those candidates will have no place to hide. They will have to come clean. No more hiding behind platitudes and deception.
To the person who posted this criticism of Marianne, I suggest you take a step back and look at your own prejudices, and your own willingness to stereotype and call names. Check out any of the many videos you can find on her website, Marianne2020, the interviews she has done and talks she has given. She is very impressive. She even has a good response to your belief that she is not qualified to be president.

(17,108 posts)me appear silly." From the transcript of her NPR interview.
I just read positions and watched one of the interviews- She's not a fool to be trifled with, she's fully articulate in a very refreshing way, and she's way deeper than "Let's all jump on the Love Boat." She's a woman with a deep Jewish heritage who can reach way back in our history and show us where we've been, how we got here, where we can go, and how to get there. At 63 years old, she's got a lot of experience to draw from.

(13,390 posts)I have never seen a candidate who is secure in their commitment to it as she is.
My cynical side doubts that she will be able to finance a campaign for as long as needed to win.
But, at minimum, I think her voice is going to be very valuable in the debates where she participates.

(13,776 posts)Can you imagine a Republican running on a message of real love and peace (rather than on lip service to love and peace)? It's laughable.

(37,748 posts)I keep hearing there are "too many running" and I'm curious as to if anyone (anyone at all) has a specific number predicated on an objective measure from which to determine what that number should in fact, be.
Or is yours also simply another "I know what art is when I see it!" subjective allegation lacking anything other than emotion to propel it at the wall in hopes the narrative sticks?

question everything
(47,476 posts)This means that each candidate will have that many minutes to talk, to tell us why s/he should be the nominee. With her preaching of love and with her "executive" experience of selling books about the topic she takes precious time from others.
Do you really think that she should be considered for the job or do you just want to feel good to hear what she has to say? Isn't this irresponsible by you to prevent the more credible candidates to appeal to us?

(47,476 posts)All one has to do is " look and act presidential." Executive experience, understanding of the issues? Demonstrating the ability to govern? Nah It is the "look and act" that count.
If this is what we are striving now, this country is doomed.

(5,275 posts)I heard her recently interviewed, maybe on one of the weekend MSNBC shows, and she was incredibly impressive detailing the institutional problems we have and what to do about it.
She is a really long shot to be on the ticket but we could do lots worse.....like most of our candidates she likely more than doubles Twitlers IQ, and shows no sign of mental decline like Orange Doofus.
