Democratic Primaries

I think Beto is the candidate who will have the most energy to handle this campaign which will just get more intense and we are just going to get into the hot summer days . He has gotten some not so good poll results lately but I think he is handling it well and not freaking out about it . This will be a positive for later on when people start to more seriously look into who they want to vote for.
the Weakness for Biden may be that I have heard he isn't that much into campaigning . I don't think attacks on Biden are very effective. He is too well known and those who attack him often come off looking worse. But I can see someone support another person because they stand out more and Biden lose some support just from not being as active on the ground . He was Senator for years from a safe seat so not as used to tough campaigns .

(2,113 posts)And Beto is clearly the MOST battle tested, and if that had of been a national race he would have won by a landslide. How close he came...in Texas...was incredible. And there is not a single one of the other candidates who could have come anywhere near doing what he did.

Beto will have to up his game in the debates. His outing w/evil Ted Cruz did not go as well as I had hoped. Cruz, as much as I hate to admit it, is a very good debater. I hated every word he spouted, but technically he is a master debater.
The Democratic field I think also has some crack debaters, so Beto will have to up his game to shine. He has good ideas but often he takes too long to hit the bullseye. Few of us has can deliver under such pressure. But he needs to do well to get back on track. I suspect Mayor Pete will be the big winner from the debates unless he gets ill or something.

(393 posts)Lawyers can argue. But it's landing the sound bite that is lasting that will serve one better than a thoughtful argument. I think, and I may be wrong, but this is where Mayor Pete is most gifted of the field.

(2,113 posts)Mayor Pete. With no time in Washington I suspect he may not have a firm grasp on policies and how things work in the national arena.

(81,468 posts)I knew someone who stood at a corner with a D campaign sign and got water thrown in his face. This happened in the Austin area during the Iraq war.

(2,208 posts)Good luck to Beto in the primaries, but if he does not get the nomination I can think of serveral possible campaigns that should grab him as VP.
Besides, he needs a job.
In politics, I mean.

(581 posts)I will remain Undecided until after the debates, but at this moment I think he has the best chance of winning a general election.
1) He can flip Texas which would be monumental.
2) He can appeal to the midwest states.
3) He will mobilise young people as he did for his Senate run. The last thing we need is young people being demotivated. Beto is dynamic, full of ideas and youthful himself.
4) He does not have baggage. Frankly against Trump none of our field will come off worse on this point, but Beto is new generation therefore his record is recent and cannot be distorted. There is no looking back on 1990 politics through the lens of 2020.
5) He has Obama campaign veterans on his team who have been through this before.

Any candidate who has a lock on both will win.
