The ironic thing is that Cale Boggs would have had to serve 4 more full Senate terms and have retired in January, 1997 (Boggs died in 1993) to be the same age Biden would be at the end of 2 POTUS terms (86 years old).

But Biden, who repeatedly called Boggs a "helluva nice guy,"

It reminds me of a story in Britain when a long serving MP was challenged to his post in his constituency for the first time in over 20 years. The challenger was getting lots of crowds in his public talks at local pubs and halls but he'd always start by saying how he respected the MP and praised him for the job he had done over the many years. The MP turned up to one of the events and shouted "if you like me so much why the f*** are you running against me!"

"To Cale Boggs an unfair tax was the 1948 poll tax. To Joe Biden an unfair tax is the 1972 income tax," said another ad.

I thought Dems were against poll taxes and for income taxes.

Doubt it will do anything. Besides, all of our elder statesman today were once young whippersnappers taking down the past generation's elder statesman. This is not a modern thing. As someone said above, AOC is in the exact same boat and if she hangs around in Congress long enough she'll have someone younger promising new ideas and thinking. Although she'll probably has enough visibility already to run for President as soon as she gets to the 35 age requirement.

he is saying boggs is from the days of poll taxes.

he isn't saying boggs is a bad guy and in fact says positive things about him.

the heroin one makes it seem like Biden is for heroin or something.

but it's more about Biden saying he is from the current generation where those things are the issues and in boggs time it was polio.
