Prediction: We will have a legitimate race on our hands soon. The polls will tighten further.

(147,030 posts)This one included an ad for Babbel at the beginning, to boot.
Why are you posting these here? Can you explain why I should be watching a Babbel ad for 30 seconds and then listening to a divisive person dissing Joe Biden?
I'll wait here for your explanation.

(147,030 posts)That Mr. Pakman is monetizing his YouTube videos is not surprising, of course. He has to make a living, after all. However, I do object to postings of monetized ads in DU threads. That is just commercial spam, as far as I'm concerned.
As for Pakman, his brand of attack messaging has no appeal for me. It reminds me of H.A. Goodman from 2016.

(5,150 posts)Just wondering what the standard is for something to be spam so I can have your support in getting rid of other things in the future.
I mean, you don't have to like Pakman. I don't like a lot of things he says. But "spam"? Seems a bit extreme.

(5,150 posts)But, on point, what is the standard for something being spam? Is it that they have monetized their YouTube channel? And, if so, do I have your support in calling anything that is monetized on YouTube spam?

(147,030 posts)Instead, I apply my own policies on which sites to visit and their content. If there are too many ads, that site loses my eyes.

(5,150 posts)The person indicated that it was an ad at the beginning that they couldn't skip. I assumed that was a monetized ad from YouTube. My bad on that. Now that I let it play, I found I was able to skip it pretty easily with the time bar on YouTube.
Still don't know why someone having a sponsor makes this spam. And it's for a language learning app--not like it's for the Trump Foundation or something.

(5,150 posts)I'm not saying you have to like him (there is a lot I don't like about him), but if the key to being spam is to have an ad on your video, then that's good to know.

(1,810 posts)"I started the video and there was no ad as is normal in a monetized YouTube account."
It is the "start" of the video. I have often seen videos monetized in this manner.
Either way, Pakman is about as shallow as they come.

(32,640 posts)The person posting is the one who appears to be spamming.
They post nothing else, and they never comment or respond.
That is marketing, pure and simple. It doesn't matter if it's for a learning app or Amazon, it's commercial monetization.
Is that clearer?
Also, he has a history of putting Democrats and Republicans in the same category of "corrupt."

(5,150 posts)And I'm not. Also not registered as a Dem. My state doesn't make us register as any party. I have always and only voted Dem since I left my conservative upbringing behind over 30 decades ago.
I don't disagree with 100% of what Pakman says. I don't like a lot of his stuff.
And I hope that you will then cut against all commercial monetization that shows up here. Because I'm going to guess there are a lot of YouTube videos that are posted here that are monetized.

(32,640 posts)this poster appears to be marketing, or you wouldn't attack the strawman that I don't think that any monetized videos get shared. You were the one that was making the distinction that certain types of ads were somehow 'less' wrong. I simply pointed out that all ads are commercial.
If you had read my post, you would understand that the main reason is that this poster posts NOTHING ELSE but links to the Pakman Show. This appears to be the ONLY reason that this poster comes to DU.
Now is that clearer?
And yes, there often offensive content in the program:

Just because you really like videos doesn't negate that they have commercial ads, and that the poster appears to have only one reason for being on DU, and that is to promote these monetized videos.

(5,150 posts)Because if it wasn't, I wouldn't watch much on YouTube.
It does seem weird that this person only posts videos from one account. I'm assuming the powers that be would ban that account if that were problematic. Randomly complaining about it doesn't seem to do anything.
