Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWarren has Achieved Liftoff
This new feature from Slate is somewhat tongue-in-cheek and a lighter look at the primaries. There's a lot of truth in it as well and it provides insight into the pop political culture POV.
The candidates are ranked by Slate's admittedly unscientific Surge Quotient. I agree with them that Warren has the most momentum. Marianne Williamson's writeup is my favorite, though. Enjoy!
1. Elizabeth Warren
She has achieved liftoff. The next step is debating a bunch of schlubs.
Shes maneuvering in the progressive lane but, according to moderates at a conference for moderates this week, doesnt terrify moderates quite like Sanders does. Everything, it seems, is coming up Liz.
3. Joe Biden
He said something he shouldnt have, again.
The front-runner is currently experiencing his worst crisis since announcing his campaign in April (and second-worst since the inappropriate touching accusations that came out just before).
Progressives, along with aforementioned lower-polling candidates looking to catch a break, hammered Biden for the walk down memory lane, suggesting he shouldnt be touting his interpersonal relationships with some of historys greatest monsters.
Older Democrats, his strongest demographic, have previously dismissed what younger progressives and the media viewed as five-alarm outrages, and a lot of voters enjoy happy talk about the good old days of gettin stuff done...
6. Bernie Sanders
Not Great, Bern!
Time is passing and his support isnt quite collapsing, but it isnt growing, either. Its just sort of hugging 15 percent...
The only move thats in front of him is to try to take down Elizabeth Warren and occupy the progressive lane by himself, a move he clumsily teased this week by highlighting how the corrupt establishment would be fine with her but not him. Would be cool to see those two go at it in the debate, but alas. Tom Perez, folks!
7. Marianne Williamson
God, yes, we are ready for the Summer of Marianne.
The bestselling self-help author is going to be on a debate stage with Joe Biden, and shes a compelling personality whom many will be seeing for the first time. She can take it straight to Biden, because why not, and then hell call her a tough dame and well be off to the races.

Drunken Irishman
(34,857 posts)So dismissive and snarky. I get they're trying to be funny but it's not.
But what really gets me is the snark about the debate. Like, what is Slate's proposal? They want Bernie and Warren on the same stage, and then state we should have Biden and Booker, too! So, what, a 20-person debate stage? It's illogical why they're bitching about the debates of all things since there really isn't a realistic away to make what they're arguing work beyond having a massive debate stage.
Do what the GOP did last year, with tiers, and Booker is unlikely to qualify to be on the same debate stage as Biden because it's so woefully down in the polls.
So, what's their debate solution? You know, without being snarky.
