Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumKamala reminds me of Obama. They both enjoy the moment they're in, they
dont seem to stress easily, and theyre both very, very smart and logical.

(7,530 posts)She's a lawyer so she's good at presenting evidence and debate. But she's also relatable as a person, which might initially seem like a step down from "orator" level like Obama - orators you listen to with rapt attention, people like Kamala you relate with on a personal level in a back and forth exchange. Different level, no less valid. I'd classify Warren also as an orator, but she multiskills between both levels; she can damn well give an inspiring speech, but also relate in a back and forth on the level of a teacher or mentor instead of just a speechmaker.
Too many politicians are just "speechmakers" a and don't do well when you ask them a question, instead answering with "default stock speech with soundbyte in response to subject-A."

(7,277 posts)when he knocked Hillary for being on the board of Walmart. I remember it clearly because it was so out of character. For me, Obama the master politician will always be saying 'Please proceed Governor'.

It is a great point. People don't want a grinch they are drawn to people who are relaxed and having fun.
Reagan had more fun than Carter and Mondale, Bush more than Gore etc.,
It's a great point and it is going to do wonders for her.

(6,139 posts)There are lots of similarities: both are biracial, west coast/ Hawaii, both are JD, both are junior senators, etc.etc.
In other words, you just wont find anyone more similar to Obama than Harris. If there is one notable personal difference is that Harris does not have children of her own (stepchildren I believe) as she just married recently.
