Joe Biden tears into Cory Booker and criticizes Kamala D. Harris as well in a shift to aggressively counter his challengers

"SNIP......

Cory knows that’s not true, number one. Number two, you know the significant portion of the incarceration that occurred before the crime bill was written,” Biden told reporters before taking a shot at police practices during Booker’s tenure.

“His police department was stopping and frisking people, mostly African American men,” he said, leading the Obama administration to intercede. “We took action against them; the Justice Department took action against them, held the police department accountable.

“He objected to federal interference. If he wants to go back and talk about records, I’m happy to do that. But I’d rather talk about the future .?.?. I challenge him or anyone else to tell me how he has a better plan than I have for moving from here.”

.....

“Since next week’s debate format will give Senator Booker twice as much time to make his attacks than it allows Vice President Biden to respond to them, we thought we would begin to respond now,” Bedingfield wrote. She then outlined Booker’s support for Newark’s police enforcement of a “zero tolerance policy” for minor infractions in 2006, as well as the department’s reliance on “stop and frisk” treatment of residents, a practice that has long been condemned by Democrats and civil rights activists.

18 months before an election. So I think we're in uncharted territory. And the thing about coordination is that ranked-choice voting encourages it, and the media reward it. So that's new territory too, and not necessarily a bad thing, although in this case, well, I'll just say that I think many of us share the same opinion of this tactic!

communities at the time of 1994 crime bill. Local leaders were pleading for relief from the overwhelming amount of gang violence and drug dealing that plagued THEIR neighborhoods.

Home invasions, drive by shootings, armed robbery, assaults, witness intimidations were running rampant.

Legislators were obligated to address the needs of law abiding citizens, many who were VICTIMS.

And just now, decades later, Cory Booker arrives on the national scene to register his Johhny-Come-Lately outrage.

It would be so easy for me to back her, too. Warren though was being talked about by a politically aware 22 yr old woman. She was jazzed by her for all the right reasons. She was a strong HRC supporter in 2016. But, she started talking to me about all Warrens plan. I started sending her the stuff that Warren was saying, and the good coverage. In doing, I came to the position that I am really liking her ability to plainly speak truth without coddling people, yet not negative with fellow Dems. A team player. I am liking Warren more and more for different reasons. I didn't start with HRC either. But by the end, what an opportunity she was for this nation. I still am impressed with HRC's voice after what happened in 2016. Strong women.

They felt that white America dismissed their communities because whites were not the victims of the surge in drug-related violent crime, which involved all the activities you point out including gang recruitment, car jackings, sexual crimes, and most at the point of guns. In fact, police were out-armed.

Booker also will not point to some very good parts of the crime bill—strong gun control, penalties for hate crimes, the Violence Against Women Act; and billions in appropriations for crime prevention, drug deterrence courts, and community policing.

A primary goes after differences. For me this is normal primary debate and I had a real issue Biden supporters going after Harris and Booker. I thought it petty. I have no problem Biden addressing this.

I do have issue going after the whole Democratic party stating we are as bad as Republicans or are just like Trump. Or call a candidate a liar for disagreeing positions. That is over the line and where the pledge needs to come into play.

It's the reality of campaigning.

I just find it amusing that some of the biggest proponents of 'the pledge' are in this thread talking about how wonderful it is. But obviously they never cared about the pledge in the first place. Just used it as an excuse to bash.
