Biden: 'I'm not going to be as polite' at next debate

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday pledged not "to be as polite" at the upcoming Democratic debate after being at the center of a tense moment in the first debate when Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) went after his record on civil rights.

Speaking at a fundraiser in Detroit, Biden said “I’m not going to be as polite this time,” according to The Detroit News. “Because this is the same person who asked me to come to California and nominate her in her convention,” he added, referring to Harris.

This week, Biden also exchanged barbs with 2020 hopeful Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) who called the former vice president an “architect of mass incarceration" in reference to a 1994 crime bill that Biden helped pass.

“If they want to argue about the past, I can do that,” Biden said at the fundraiser. “I got a past I’m proud of. They got a past that’s not quite so good.”

Apparently he expected Harris to treat him with deference out of gratitude for his endorsement. And because she didn't, he's not going to be polite to her. That is a weird way to reject a treasured, oft-stated principle. I guess civility is only important when he's dealing with Republicans?

He may point out some issues. But he will not be rude.

Notice he said not as polite. But still polite.

Love it.

He bit his tongue last time, for good reason: he didn't want to seem angry or annoyed. But he clearly was. He was also prepared and pointed out the lie in Kamala's accusation. Of course, the pundits pretended he didn't, but I heard and saw it and even posted about it here in real time.

But never mind. The long and short is, he's not going to bring up anything petty unless one of his rivals brings it up first.
