Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumAfter watching the interviews with Senator Warren the past few weeks, there is nobody in the race
who explains their policies better in a easy to understandable way for plain folks like me.( she is very smart) Must be the teacher in her. This is why I am predicting her poll numbers will rise once the debates start. Will they move high enough to get her in the top tier of candidates to continue on in the race? I just don't know. My bigger question is, can she beat Trump? I trust her more than any other candidate to stick to her promises and her beliefs.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(9,696 posts)as more people hear her talk. Whether or not they go high enough remains to be seen, I'm just happy her voice will be heard in the debates. I think a lot of people will trust her.

(393 posts)I don't think any of the candidates has what she has and does - she is so in the zone when she's talking about her issues. Everything comes so easily - fact after fact; sincere interest, concentration and most importantly, she never talks down to the person who is interviewing her. I was so impressed.
Most of the other candidates can speak intelligently on a variety of subjects, but I get the feeling once they give their answers they are ready to move on; not Warren. Seems like she wants to keep on talking about X as it's the most important issue to her and she has been studying the issue for years.

(14,565 posts)Step back for a while...let another woman be elected president first...allow the national demographics to move in our direction, and then jump back in with all her great ideas and ability to express them.
Instead, she will be talent partially unfulfilled. I can't feel too bad for her because some of it is her doing. Great policy isn't enough if matched with weak instincts.
I agree she doesn't have a prayer

(3,635 posts)better than almost anyone.
She has the ideas, the insight, etc.
She's to the left, but a loyal liberal Democrat that any Dem (including centrists) would vote for in the GE - unlike Sanders or Gabbard who could never hold onto the Obama/Hillary coalition that includes many moderate voters.
The problem is Warren imo is not a great campaigner, but she can get better as things go along and she explains her ideas in the debates etc.
IMO, we must have a woman (women drove the blue wave and this is the MeToo era) on the ticket, preferably at the top of the ticket but if Beto or Biden gets the nom then they need to pick Warren or Kamala as VP.

(7,539 posts)My dream Administration at the moment is Harris/Sanders, Warren as AG, and Biden or Obama as Secretary of State.
All the rest of the candidates are great too, and we need them to remain strong in Congress and gain XP for a potential future presidency.

(9,163 posts)Pocahontas taunt. He played her and she failed that test. If she won the nomination, he would destroy her. He would brand her as a liar and a fake until election day, and it wouldn't matter that he has told 10,000 lies. This is the reality.

(1,736 posts)Candidates have gaffes. The strongest candidates can overcome them.
Calling someone a racial slur won't help Trump in the general any more than it already has, although Democrats should learn from AOC how to use social media to respond to slurs quickly and dominate the narrative.

(1,736 posts)Plus Clinton had high negatives to start, even among Democrats. Even the campaign's own turnout models were off, and nobody took Trump seriously - at least, not enough party leaders did.
Do we ask Trump who we should nominate?
No matter who runs, winning the presidency and Senate majority is no gimme. Let every candidate bring their best ideas and see who stands up to scrutiny, who has the endurance, who can galvanize the party and reach independents.
No matter who the nominee is, WE have to put the work in. I'm going to the county Democratic shindig tomorrow and hosting a party for a city council candidate Sunday, second party we've hosted just for the spring election. The lesson from 2016 and 2018 that I learned is turn off the TV and put the work in. Win in your county, your city, your state. If we all do that, we win the presidency and the Senate and have a chance to pass historic legislation on climate change and other issues.
The time for fear is over. WIN.
