I don't know what Joe Biden's campaign is about.

His candidacy just feels... anti-climactic. Forgive the random analogy, but it reminds me of Brett Favre having the magical season with the '09 Vikings, hemming and hawing about returning, then coming back for a sad, losing 2010 season.

I love Joe Biden to death. He is decent to his core, has fought hard battles, was the perfect partner to Obama, and has overcome deep personal tragedy. And I really think a lot of the attacks on him in the debates are cheap, ticky tack lines to knock down a front runner.

But I don't feel the electricity, and that makes me sad to see at this stage. His website will speak to issues of the middle class, but other candidates are actually speaking to that better on the stump and in the debates. In fact, he's not even the best at criticizing proposals like Medicare For All. Michael Bennet, Pete Buttigieg, and others are far more articulate at describing and advocating for a public option.

I just don't sense a narrative in his campaign other than, "I've been at this a while, so just trust me."

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

his campaign is about returning decency to the Oval Office.

Plus he has the usual assortment of more moderate Democratic policies...

The 20-candidate environment sucks. Way too many details are getting lost.

But I'm saying even in the moments Biden has the floor, he's not driving the debate or really rebutting his opponents beyond "That's not true" and "Here's what Barack Obama did."

David Axelrod said it best, which is, "It seemed Biden didn't want the ball at times tonight."

We will definitely see how he does as the debates change. However, my observation goes beyond the debates to the overall sweep of Biden's candidacy.

Biden is a classically trained, old school statesman, a true gentleman who wears his dignity and gravitas like the innate professional he is.

When people started thinking the President of the US needs to act like a rockstar high on drugs du jour, or look like a Hollywood superhero in spandex and a muscle suit, we ended up with Trump.

If you want to be entertained go buy a ticket to the latest movie blockbuster or a concert. Politicians do not need "electricity" to amuse the crowd, they been to be honest and humble, and fair to everyone as he develops his positions and policies during the primaries.

After Trump's flaming carnival show of the damned, Biden is building trust and confidence in his stalwart character, and his long experience in national and foriegn affairs. His quiet, reliable strength of character and thoughtful responses seem more like a welcomed respite from the frey.

Since most of the candidates will soon be eliminated, Biden just needs to Outlive, Outlast and Outplay the also rans until he's face to face with the final opponent.
