Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumLucky for the Democrats that President Obama doesn't take things personally.
Attacking President Obama was bad form for Democrats.
Lucky for those that joined in the pile on that President Obama has a very thick skin and doesn't hold grudges.
When there is a nominee and we go full on into the 2020 election that nominee will need President Obama to get out there for them. They are fortunate that Barack Obama is a man of grace who lets shit slid off his back.
I was very disappointed that several of the candidates didn't seem to have the self-containment to resist playing that game in an attempt to damage Biden.
Like Rev. Al said "who is advising them?"

(43,177 posts)our eventual nominee is negligent if he/she doesn't consult with Buttigieg on strategy. He pulls things together at the highest level with all the facts available. We don't just need policy and platform and dump Trump, we need vision and logistics and an anticipation of how campaign actions will play out.

(50,278 posts)if they could vote for him again. So far none of our contenders comes even close to that kind of appeal. I doubt I'll ever feel that way about a POTUS again. They can certainly develop their own personalities without trashing every Obama policy because Biden might be connected to it.

(4,341 posts)In the Obama administration there was more good than bad, but to try to hide the bad is wrong, we can never learn if we do that and we fall into the fanatic pool by refusing to acknowledge that some things could have been, and should have been done differently because the outcome as decisions were made, was not good.
No one went after Obama last night, they questioned Biden on issues where he could have, at least, tried to change the decisions. When asked about the million deportations that went on during Obama's administration, of which Biden was part of and has boasted on other successes, he threw the ball at Obama, tried to disassociate himself from it, and he was called out.
Even the senator who was a guest at Brian Williams show last night, who started what has become now a meme about Democrats trashing Obama, she has backpedaled and recognized that it was not so. I wish people stop this meme, it is not true. Joy Reid also retracted her initial comment after Lawrence O'Donnell, Michael Moore, and DeBlassio pointed out that it was not true.
Please stop it, the criticism was directed at Biden, not at Obama, and anyway, not everything was perfect under Obama, we must recognize that fact. We may be comparing it to the current creature in the WH, which is unfair, there will never be anything so hideous and horrendous in the White House again, this creature who pretends to be president is an anomaly which will not repeat.

(49,001 posts)criticism of Obama. It boiled down to: "Obama's decisions were wrong. Why didn't you stop him or try to stop him?"
Yes, their ultimate target was Biden.. But they had to put Obama down to get to Biden using this tack.
And it looked bad.

(4,341 posts)I really don't understand that. Republicans do that, and that is why the creature gets away with all the crap he does, Democrats have never done that. We have to be able to take criticism, and that was a valid question for Biden who now claims something that if he believes it, then why didn't he do something about it when he had his chance?
I really don't see anything wrong with it. Did Obama overplayed his hand with his deportations? It seems he did.
We need to be able to point out the good and the bad, when we keep quiet all we are doing is allowing these politicians to do the wrong things because they know they won't be called out, and we have the worst in the WH today, he ups the evil every day because he knows his minions will not dare to call him out.

(32,645 posts)Biden is still the front-runner in this race and that makes him a target whether he likes it or not. Whether it's fair or not.
It would be hard to find any Democrat (certainly none of the participants last night) who holds a grudge against Obama. Debaters were saying stuff to score cheap points off Joe Biden, and I'm sure Obama understood what was happening. When this is over Biden will shake everyone's hands and bring them into our big tent.

(1,568 posts)I get it if they didn't agree with Obama/Biden on various issues. We can't all agree on everything. It'd be creepy and we'd probably never improve ourselves, but I can't can't but feel they are only taking issue in order to gain some sort of political points because they are running for president. It would be one thing if they consistently spoke up about those issues while Obama/Biden were in office, but to start doing it now makes me suspicious of what's actually important to them.
