Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumHate to say it but there are some folks on the debate stage
that look and sound desperate. It is amazing that some of these folks think they have a legitimate shot at being President. Hopefully they will watch a replay and try to look and act more Presidential and less self serving. It is really making me much more concerned about our chances. They should be going after Trump and not Obama. There are some high dollar campaign staffers that are making their clients look bad with the advice they are giving. They must all be reading "How To Win The Nomination And Lose The General Election" with the sub title "Scorched Earth"

(560 posts)up there again. I actually kind of like Yang (though I don't like his signature issue), like Inslee (if you're going to be a one-issue guy, why not shoot for a position in the cabinet--say EPA), like Bennett. I mean none are going anywhere, but they mainly handle themselves well.
If you're talking about a certain Senator from New Jersey who drops "shithole" on live TV, I think I'm with you.

(7,947 posts)and can make it part of the overall discourse. Inslee keeps reminding us to pay attention to climate change, Yang to deal with income inequality--
That should be the function of the low-polling candidates. Keep shoving these important issues into the conversation... so that the media don't focus entirely on the "horse race" and "Electability".

(393 posts)I think a lot of the candidates that don't poll as well as the leaders, ran to highlight a specific issue or had some vision that was unique and maybe who's time isn't quite ready. NOT all of them of course. However, in order to hear these voices, we gotta let all potential candidates enter the race.
I'm sure Andrew Yang knows he has very little chance of winning, but maybe his issue of a national basic income can gain traction; enter the national dialog. I applaud him. Ideas are the life blood of our democracy.
Others who really have not much to say or I wonder why they entered the race, are perhaps hoping for a cabinet position if the party wins or maybe even become VP. They will all deny that this is their ambition, but what else could it be? vanity? So we listen to what they have to say, maybe it will add to the national dialog.
We have great candidates!! Bravo Democrats.

(6,537 posts)If you've been a declared candidate for months and still at 1% or lower, the money won't flow to you forever. The people who donate want to see some progress.

(4,490 posts)Need to just narrow it down a lot. Seems there are some clear tiers of support. I don't know the current numbers, but my guess is:
1. Biden
2. Warren, Sanders, Harris
3. Buttigieg, maybe O'Rourke, Booker, Castro, Gabbard(?)
4. A bunch of hangers on
Should've been down to 10 for the 2nd debate. Way too light of criterea, imo.
