But honestly, I don't pay much attention to the debates. I have a few faves, but unless they eat a live kitten onstage, they're still better than Trump... and maybe even if they did.

Good one. I think Stassen used to be taken seriously - until he kept runing and running and running. Not sure Gravel has ever been as a presidential candidate, although I agreed with some of his ideas

And well liked. Unfortunately his service in WWII cost him political support while his non-serving rival, Thomas Dewey, was able to consolidate his.


Fun fact Stassen so sacred Dewey, that Dewey proposed a debate. It was the first debate between candidates.

Stassen was a moderate anti-isolationist republican. Well he was till 1948 when the race to see who was most anti-red started.
