Elizabeth Warren Blames Mitch McConnell Corruption For Endless Gun Massacres

From the article:

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren railed against Congress for standing in the way of common-sense gun reforms that would save lives if Mitch McConnell and Republicans would stop blocking them.
“We have a Congress that is beholden to the gun industry,” Warren said. “And unless we’re willing to address that head-on and roll back the filibuster, we’re not going to get anything done on guns.”

The Koches donate to the NRA because gun identity politics gets votes for Republican billionaires.

That's the story. Good for Liz.

Hastert, with the "Hastert rule", laid the foundation because that rule demanded that nothing would pass Congress unless it could be passed by GOP votes alone. It was the beginning of GOP obstructionism and the GOP's one Party philosophy.

I know I’m critical of her a lot so it’s only fair to give her credit when I believe she’s right.

The filibuster is a disaster. Actually the Senate is a disaster, but we’re probably not getting rid of that anytime soon.

A booming economy is reassuring and liberalizing; secure people are kinder and more generous.

McConnell and company had absolutely no intention of allowing Americans to feel good after Obama's election. They couldn't keep the economy from recovering altogether from the Great Recession, but they were able to impede recovery, including quashing job and wage growth, with a goal of getting control of the presidency back after one temr When that failed, McConnell just continued his plan for another 4 years.

And if course it included other ways of making Americans unhappy, including smiling with satisfaction at growing problems, which they could all blame on Democrats. Including gun violence and increasing RW extremism.

I agree with Warren. Her statement is as correct as anything that simple can be.

The GOP was happy with literally trillions in quantitative easing, which is economics-speak for corporate welfare involving the Federal Reserve buying toxic assets from the biggest banks. But helping actual working Americans was never in the GOP plan.

the 99% to keep them worried and increasingly protectively conservative, that their own donor class isn't hurt.

When the already corrupt white man's party realized they had to integrate or lose power forever to the demographic progression, they chose a very dangerous and destructive third path, and that includes nurturing resentments and convictions of victimization. And disarming the right is not part of this plan.

"Fascism flourishes in moments of great anxiety, because you can connect that anxiety with fake loss. The story is typically that a once-great society has been destroyed by liberalism or feminism or cultural Marxism or whatever, and you make the dominant group feel angry and resentful about the loss of their status and power. Almost every manifestation of fascism mirrors this general narrative."

And you perfectly summarized GOP philosophy from 1965 to the present day.

And part of the scheme is to create a false narrative of what life was actually like for the vast majority of people in the US prior to 1965.

is of course is a standard fascist tactic.

I grabbed that when was looking for but didn't find a concise list I saw not long ago of standard tools in the fascistic tool chest that Republicans are using, creating divisions and hostility between groups, embedding corruption, destroying norms, encouraging violence, demonizing opponents, persecuting groups on behalf of their red in tooth and claw base, etc.
