(3,162 posts)...in a parliamentary system the different political factions form parties to battle it out on a national stage, have an election then coalesce AFTER to take power...
...in our system the different political factions gather under either the Democratic or Republican banner, battle it out and come together respectively BEFORE a national election...
...right now, there is no viable 3rd party path to national office...so when a Big Tent candidate throws a political hand grenade under their Big Tent and blows it up BEFORE a national election, it makes it difficult or impossible for all the other factions to unify and compete in the upcoming national election...
...and we shouldn't blame the sins of the 'daughter' on the 'father'...
...happily...

(15,368 posts)Many still do not understand how difficult it was to persuade her to run in 2016.
She ran; she gave it her all; and she would have been President today but for ... too many things that she did not deserve.
She has a good life now. Why subject herself to the vituperation she received ... even from many in her own party?
Any Democrat who wins the WH should give heed to her advice on how to fix an extremely demoralized Department of State.

(2,065 posts)I saw her on the debate stage, duking it out with the other candidates regarding the whole Syria debacle. She bandied about the term "regime change wars", and I suppose that that term or concept holds a special place in her anti-war ideology. But of course, the audience was not let in on exactly what she meant by the concept, and all the ramifications / implications involved. In an ideal world, we could all be peaceniks and be better off for it - but the world is a tough, competitive place, with high stakes races for geopolitical power and influence. Tulsi's antiwar ideology, and her excessive reliance on it, eclipsing all other issues, it seems, definitely make her ripe for cultivation as a third party candidate - and third party candidates are definitely NOT what we need right now if we are going to defeat Donald Trump and save our democracy. When Tulsi came back at Hillary, calling her the queen of warmongers, she curiously echoed the message of a program I saw on Russia Today about Hillary that aired before the 2016 election.

(14,966 posts)how utterly predictable it is, at this point, that she would do so.
One would think that a person who had received a bunch of criticism (fairly or not) for acting like a Putin-puppet would make some effort to act otherwise, if indeed they were otherwise.

(17,387 posts)Tulsi not only endorsed Bernie Sanders in the 2016 election against Hillary Clinton, she was subsequently a founder and fellow of the Sanders Institute, which was formed by Bernie's wife. Jane Sanders.
https://www.votetulsi.com/node/32955
"I've had the privilege of working with Tulsi over the past few years and have found her compassion, determination and intelligence to be impressive, particularly when it comes to foreign policy and the needs of our veterans. I look forward to the work we will do together at the Sanders Institute," said Founder Fellow, Jane Sanders.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to work with the Sanders Institute and its' Founding Fellows who are committed to ensuring fairness and equality for all. While we are living in challenging and unprecedented times, we will collaborate and focus on finding real solutions that best serve the American people and move our country forward," said Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.
Background: The Sanders Institute's mission is to revitalize democracy by actively engaging individuals, organizations and the media in the pursuit of progressive solutions to economic, environmental, racial and social justice issues. The Institute hosts a website that will include reports, op-eds, and original content from the Founding Fellows in addition to other individuals and organizations. Content will consist of thought-provoking perspectives with goals including civil discourse and deeper progressive participation.
The Sanders Institute Founding Fellows are Representative Tulsi Gabbard, Professor Robert Reich, Bill McKibben, Danny Glover, Dr. Stephanie Kelton, Ben Jealous, Dr. Cornel West, The Honorable Nina Turner, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Harry Belafonte, and Jane Sanders.

(13,180 posts)It's just a rotten, damaging meme. Every organization has a some "rot" simply by virtue of the laws of probability. The Democratic Party is the strongest political voice against "rot" currently in the world in my opinion. Gabbard is damaging that party, making her a voice for rot. Nevertheless, this fight with Clinton will probably be good for Gabbard's campaign (which was toast).
