Castro says he needs $800,000 in 10 days or campaign is over

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/castro-800000-10-days-campaign-66418780?cid=clicksource_4380645_null_headlines_hed

Former Obama administration housing secretary Julián Castro said Monday that he'd drop out of the presidential race if he doesn't raise $800,000 in 10 days — following the lead of rival Cory Booker, who rode a similar plea to a recent uptick in donations.

"This is a critical moment — if my campaign can't raise $800,000 by October 31st, my campaign will be silenced for good," Castro tweeted.

The amount Castro hopes to raise in less than two weeks is about a quarter of the $3.5 million total he took in during the three-month period through September. Castro ended the third quarter with just $672,000 in his campaign bank account.

Last month, Booker, a New Jersey senator, made a similar request and raised $2.1 million in just 10 days , after a number of his opponents and other elected officials rallied around him and encouraged people to donate.

... but if he plays his cards right, he could be a contender for the VP slot, or perhaps a cabinet position.

He claimed God would kill him on April 1 if he didn't raise $8 million.

Oral Roberts to Climb Tower, Pray for Money

MARCH 21, 1987 12 AM UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL

TULSA, Okla. — Evangelist Oral Roberts will climb into his prayer tower Sunday to fast and pray for the rest of the month for donations to meet a deadline to raise $8 million for medical scholarships, a spokeswoman said.

Earlier this year, Roberts said that he had been told by God, “I’ll call you home,” if the money was not raised by the end of March.

A worker at the Oral Roberts University television studio Friday said that taping has already been done of the evangelist climbing into the tower and will be shown on his television show Sunday.

The evangelist will remain in a sparsely furnished prayer room about halfway up a 200-foot-tall spire on the Oral Roberts University campus.

He’s not a bad candidate, but in a packed field where he’s far at the end, it’s time to pack it in and try again next time around.

not catching fire in this cycle. He’s in a tough spot because the field is crowed with lots of fantastic people.

He has a lot of good ideas, especially about how he would revolutionize immigration.

I hope he’s part of the next democratic administration. He did great things at HUD under Obama. He would be able to repair much of the damage from Carson fast because he knows how everything works; there would be no learning curve. Under his leadership HUD was stronger than it had been in years.
