Going Bloomberg.. for now.

From the beginning, my only focus has been on the key swing states that are needed to actually get to 270.

I don't give 2 shits about policy. I don't give 2 shits about history. I don't give 2 shits about the national (popular vote) polls. I don't care what California is polling at, or New York, or Alabama, or even where I live here in Texas (unless a candidate can really turn it into a winnable battleground like I thought Beto could early in the season).

He just announced, so there are no matchup's of Bloomberg in the battlegrounds yet, but as I have done with the other candidates, I will watch those most closely. I'm taking a leap of faith here. I think Bloomberg is just the kind of candidate that may really be able to take on Cheetolini in those states.

Right now, the single biggest concern I have about Bloomberg is that, if we get him a House and Senate majority, that no matter what, he will sign off on, not veto, any hard fought for legislation the party gets to his desk. This is the same major concern I have had about Bernie Sanders. All of the other candidates, not so much.

If the matchup polls don't show Bloomberg doing well in the battleground states like I think he will, I'll drop him like yesterdays left out potato salad.

Winning 2020 is all that matters. Popular vote doesn't do it, we've seen that already. 270. If Bloomberg, as I suspect, is the one that gives us the best showing in the battleground states like I suspect upcoming polls will show, I'm with him.

I'm especially interested to see how the next Texas matchup poll will go. Bloomberg may be able to do what Beto wasn't and get that reddish purple of my state into the bluish purple category.

primary today, I would vote for:

6. Yes, I've been paying attention. No I don't give a shit.

You are wrong about me being a "Republican posing as a Democrat". I've been here an active member here almost as long as you have. I also supported her bid first in 2008, and even when she lost the Primary, I was more than happy to get 100% behind then candidate Obama.

Hell no, I did not support Jill Stein in 2016, I was a Hillary Clinton for President from the beginning. I didn't just vote for her, I phone banked, and canvassed, and donated the maximum to her both during primary and GE. I openly wept, and completely unashamed about it that awful night in November of 2016 as I watched the results unfold.

In 2018 I was a PROUD supporter of Lizzie Fletcher, the first Democratic Party candidate to hold office in my congressional district since George HW Bush took that seat in the 1960's. I'm active in her campaign to try to hold that seat for next year as well, and for my senate I'm an active and supporting member of MJ Hegar's bid for Senate to oust Cornyn.

But thank you for asking, and the back-handed attempt to slander me here because I'm more focused on winning than issues.

"It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.

This is a forum for discussion. Whether you agree with Mr. Bloomberg or not, as long as he's running as a Democrat, one should be able to profess support. While I disagree, I admire the posters courage.

7. A scholarly paper you might be interested in.

I share your concerns. This keeps me up at night.

This might not exactly be what you are looking at, but I can't recommend this paper enough. This is a paper from The British Journal of Sociology 2017 Volume 68 Issue S1, by Michael McQuarrie. It's 33 pages.

TITLE: The revolt of the Rust Belt: place and politics in
the age of anger

It's long, but I recommend it to people periodically who might be interested.

10. Thank you!

I've only gotten through the introduction at this point, but this does look like it's going to be a great read. It's saying things I've long believed to be true about this region of our country that virtually holds us hostage on Presidential selection.

One trivia fact I keep pointing out is that no president since JFK has taken that office without Ohio's electoral votes.

It's a deadly serious issue. Maybe I'm being simplistic, but not much matters if we don't win. To me that is the bottom line. We have to get this person out of the White House. If we don't, all the other issues become moot.

as the majority leader, holding up gun reform efforts? Bloomberg supported dozens of Senate Republicans including Pat Toomey in Pa. His supposed gun control group, Everytown, propped up Toomey in 2016 giving him unwarrented credibility to suburban voters in Montgomery county which helped Toomey over perform there.

28. If his campaign run does start showing strongly in battleground states, yes. I do.

Just as I've supported Biden despite the Iraq war vote.
Or Bernie despite my firm belief that he's a core reason we have Trump in the first place.
Or Senator Warren despite her having been a Republican as well in the past.
Or

It's about the swing states and who they will be willing to turn out and support come the GE.

So yes, I am willing to forgive Bloomberg the $17 million he's donated to boost Republicans since 2012 out of the $86 million he's spent on candidates from all walks.

If he does turn out to be the one strongest against Trump in those swing states, I'm a Bloomberg supporter.

If the next round of polling proves my intuitions wrong, I'll have Biden back in my signature.. or Warren if her polling in those states pulls ahead, or even BS if his are pulling ahead, and I have a deep-seated disdain of Bernie held over from 2016.. bordering on hostile hatred, but if he's got the best chance of pulling the swing states, I'll swallow that hatred and support.

Trump has got to go, and the senate has made it clear they will not convict on any house impeachment.

34. Yes. With regards to 2020, I worry about a lot of things.

Almost daily I look at this map and worry about many things

In the states that are allocated as blue, I do have concern that a Bloomberg candidacy might affect the turnout numbers, but I don't think it will be enough to change them to Red. I desperately hope that it isn't.

The vast majority of Red ones aren't going to change either.

Those beige ones though.. Those are the ones I look at again and again and again.

The thing I fear the absolute most is waking up on November 4th, 2020 and seeing that orange jackass being reelected, and having that wave of nausea and fear that I had that horrible morning in November 2016.

It baffles the hell out of me still that people who voted for President Obama in 2008 and 2012 could in any way shape or form be some of the same people that voted for orange Hitler in 2016..

I'm not even CLOSE to being all in for Bloomberg at this point, but I do want to see how his numbers will be in those beige states. Maybe he is the one to get those votes back in our court.

There's so much at work against us right now:
Cheetolini is not facing any real primary challenge.
We have what's turning out to be one massive and very contentious primary.
Cheeto is an incumbent, and thanks to President Obama's OUTSTANDING work, even with the mess he's made of things the strong Obama economy is holding.
Our candidates are spending their donations as fast as they get them to fight each other while Cheeto's massive war chest keeps building.

The only things I actually like about Bloomberg at this point is he's going directly after Trump, and the potential he may bring to clinching those swing states.
