Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMy plan to redesign the primaries.
Yes, Iowa and NH are too white.
Yes, we need to change.
But change to what?
A national primary?
No, that would rule out the little guy with shallow pockets.
Im more in favor of either regional or selected non regional groups of five.
Wrap it up in 10 weeks.
Start the first week of March.
Have all primaries (no more caucuses) on Saturdays.
Go 10 straight Saturdays.
Each Saturday features 5 states voting either in geographic clumps or non geographic selected by the DNC to show diverse demographics for each Saturday.
Its time the parties took the power back fro the states in dictating how we get our nominees.

(10,870 posts)Those states that agree to Saturdays get moved up on the calendar.
Primaries get moved up on the calendar ahead of caucuses.

(2,061 posts)I would be perfectly fine with a national primary day. Under the current structure, or one as you mention, time and money need to be limited.

(14,531 posts)Make the primaries regional. Also rotate the region voting 1st every year.

(14,531 posts)but every now and again I get a great idea.
I also believe the caucuses system needs to go. They are discriminatory. My spouse traveled a lot for business, I would take the kids to vote with me. If I had to participate in a caucus, I would not have been able to. With 3 kids we could not afford to get a babysitter, that could handle 3 very rambunctious kids. In a line for 20-30 minutes to vote, fine. At a caucus for hours...not a snowballs chance in hell.

(68,563 posts)the only issue is those states in GOP control...don't see how we encourage or make them do anything.
