Tom Steyer Statement on DNC January Debate Rules

4President

(SAN FRANCISCO, December 4, 2019) — Today, Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer released the statement below — in anticipation of the release of the January debate rules — calling on the Democratic National Committee to ensure future debates include a wider field of candidates:

“Today, I’m calling on the DNC to open up the debate requirements for January so that more candidates can participate. One of the strengths of the Democratic Party is that it represents every community in our great nation. In order to defeat Donald Trump, Democrats need to engage voters from every part of the country, and that means making sure voters hear from a diverse group of candidates before they select our nominee. I know the party shares this goal, and I hope they’ll give voters one more opportunity to hear from more candidates before they cast ballots. This is more important than any one campaign — this is about finding the best candidate to represent our party and lead our country forward.”
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Tired of billionaires in general, but specifically sick of those pleading for special privilege because of their cash stash.

Tom? Michael? Either pound the pavement and establish a donor base like everyone else, or sit on the sidelines like everyone else. Now, piss off both of you.

It was especially ridiculous to have a 12 candidate debate, rather than just split it up into two nights with 6 candidates on each night. The network was already prepared to do two nights, and we had done two nights before. So that was a terrible decision by Tom Perez.

He's done everything right on paper, and has a lot of his own funds to spend. But he is failing to make a dent in Iowa despite leaving congress to start campaigning there in 2017.

If you were doing waste of time/money vs. pre-announcement expectations, Harris, with Booker being a close runner up. I think most pundits figured them to be in the race to the convention. Booker is barely hanging in, and Harris is gone.
