Veteran Obama fundraiser Louis Susman is backing Joe Biden in bid for president 😎

A longtime fundraiser for President Barack Obama who recently helped former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke in his bid for president is opening his donor network to former Vice President Joe Biden.

Louis Susman, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom under Obama, told CNBC in an interview that he's going to start fundraising for Biden

The DNC loves this because this means they will start getting the money that the repugs are getting right now. While Bernie and Elizabeth are fighting against the big money political influences. Look up the last Democratic debate and how Biden and Bernie were total opposites about the money in politics. I know if Biden wins the nomination, and the he's better than trump BS, I will vote for him. It's just the he's less corrupt/purchased that trump is supposed to be a selling point it's still the same old BS one is less evil than the other. Where has that gotten us(?) less Democratic Governors, no Democratic Senate, lost Democratic President after Obama "did such a great job". Why did the Electoral College decide who would be the president? Hell trump was on the news telling you where he was going and what he was doing, why didn't the DNC send Hillary there to fight? The monies to be didn't want to change the outcome...

I hate to see Democrats demonized...because they have money...allow me to point out that Sanders is a millionaire...and his wife got a hefty bonus when she left the college that shut down...so it sounds silly for him and/or his supporters to be attacking other Democrats who in many cases have funded successful elections for us. My brother is loaded and gives a great deal to Democrats and various causes...and is not doing it for a tax cut either...but because he believes in our Democratic ideology...same as me.

26. Many of the richest families in the US are actually Democrats.
Sun Dec 22, 2019, 09:25 PM
Dec 2019

"A review of the 20 richest Americans, as listed by Forbes Magazine, found that 60 percent affiliate with the Democratic Party, including the top three individuals: Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Larry Ellison. Among the richest families, the Democratic advantage rises even higher, to 75 percent." https://www.debt.org/faqs/americans-in-debt/economic-demographics-democrats/ Clearly, it's not correct to assume that holding a fund-raiser aimed at the wealthy is either pointless or downright evil, based on the false assumption that all wealthy people are conservative, or that wealthy Democrats don't exist, or that Democratic candidates are corruptible. They aren't; they do; and they donate to Democrats. Warren Buffett, who voted for Clinton, has stated publicly that he believed it was wrong that rich people like himself could pay less in federal taxes, as a portion of income, than the middle class, and voiced support for increased income taxes on the wealthy.

But I guess some Democratic (or temporarily Democratic) candidates are too pure these days to take donations from those Democrats who can afford to donate.

....she did have one in lower Manhattan back in 2012, asking for as much as $5000, as low as $1000, for her Senate election. Then last year she also had a big money fundraiser at, ironically, a winery. But not in a cave! There probably were others last year and over the previous few years.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287389647

Plus, early this year she transferred more than $10.4 M from her Senate campaign. Most likely some of that was raised at those big money fundraisers.

24. It reflects the difficulty that the big money needed to run a campaign creates
Sun Dec 22, 2019, 11:53 AM
Dec 2019

I doubt ANY candidate loves the time he/she must spend raising money to fund the campaign that they want to run. It is true that since 2004, a lot of money is raised in small amounts via the internet. Some candidates are more successful with that than others.

There are limits on how much a candidate can give to any campaign, but many very rich people give large sums to PACs and (in the general election) to the DNC.

The ability of a Senator to move money to and from the Senate account is a huge plus. In fact, in 2006, there were some people angry that in a year we were trying to take back Congress, Clinton, with weak opposition in both the primary and the general election, raised huge amounts - getting people to max out for both the primary and the general election - to legally build up a war chest clearly intended for 2008. I would bet that EVERY Senator with money left in a Senate account does exactly what Warren did.

I think that Warren is a good example of someone who does understand the danger of big money in government. However, I think the easy explanation of why she did the big fundraisers for her two Senate races was that she did not have the platform she later had to try to raise enough money in small donations without fundraisers. This goes to the heart of the difference between her and Mayor Pete. He did not have the ability to raise needed money as she .. and Bernie did.

23. Susman played a bigger role in the Obama story than being a fundraiser
Sun Dec 22, 2019, 11:36 AM
Dec 2019

It was Susman, a Chicagoan who vacationed in Nantucket, who advised John Kerry in 2004 that he should make sure that he should include Obama in an Illinois stop and told him he saw Obama as a future superstar of the party. After taking that advise and also being very impressed by Obama, Kerry offered Obama the opportunity to give that all important convention speech.
