Ground Game LA was founded after the failed campaign of Jessica Salans who was a Bernie supporter in 2015-2016.

In the summer of 2016, Jessica filed to run for Los Angeles City Council, District 13. Two weeks after the City Council primary, of March 2017, Ground Game LA was founded. Salans lost the city council election (coming in third) gathering only 13.56% of the vote (3,902 voters). Salans was only able to raise about $14,000 in contributions.
