Wrong in practice as any doctor who bills privately is forced out of the public system in 9/10 provinces

To avoid this 99 percent of doctors stay in the public system

Google this and you will find info on Dr Days Cambria Clinic lawsuit to try to get out of this.

There is NO double billing in practice in Canada except for a few recalcitrant provinces. Everyone is in the same queue.

19. Imagine what they would do to MFA.
Mon Dec 23, 2019, 08:22 PM
Dec 2019

Especially considering that SCOTUS ruled in 2012 that states would not suffer consequences for refusing to expand Medicaid under the ACA.

Just imagine what the 2020 court would rule on allowing states to refuse to participate in expanding Medicare...

And yes, there would be a huge part of MFA administered at the state level. No way around that - just look at Canada.

https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/health-care-system/reports-publications/health-care-system/canada.html#a6

The ACA was implemented more gradually than the promised TWO YEARS that Sanders is promising for his MFA (reduced from 8 years for for this round of campaign promises) and allowed people to get to like the portions that affected them - like having pre-existing conditions covered, kids covered on their parent's plan up through age 26. That made it impossible to "repeal and replace" once the GOP got into office and realized that it had snuck up on them.

It would take much less time to gut a fast tracked MFA. There's an old saying in project management: Cheap, fast or high quality - pick two.

Insurance as an additional option is available, but all French citizens are covered by the basic health without any insurance involvement. Taxes. And I don’t agree with the perspective that overall cost reduction should be a goal; rather, increasing efficiency (cost of achieving some desired outcome) should be a goal. I think that increasing the share of GDP allocated to health care in the short term would absolutely be a good thing, to increase the level and scope of services provided to the population.

Health care workers should be well compensated.

And for these reasons:

Biden also deals with a number of other health care system issues:
Medicare could negotiate directly with drug companies for lower prices in that program
.
Launch prices for drugs that face no competition would have their Medicare and individual market prices tied to a process called "external reference pricing"––based on what a market basket of other nations are willing to pay thereby bringing U.S. prices more in line with what is paid in other industrialized economies.

Biden would increase the community health center budget to improve care for underserved populations.
Biden would pay for his plan by:
Eliminating the 20% flat tax on capital gains for those with incomes over $1 million and have them pay the top tax rate of 39.6% on capital gains.
Roll back the Trump tax cuts for the "very wealthy" and restore the top bracket to 39.6%.

In my view, single payer is still the better option, but these things would make a huge difference.

Of course we can enact it. First step is to name what you want. Then you work towards it. Step by step.

Starting with a compromise just lowers the bar. Set the bar high and that becomes your goal. Set the bar low, and the compromise will just get lower.
