Bloomberg's campaign hires 500 staffers in over 30 states

NBC News

WASHINGTON — Michael Bloomberg is wasting no time building out his campaign's ground game, with 500 organizers and staff in more than 30 states, including all 14 of the delegate-rich Super Tuesday states, his campaign told NBC News.

The ramp-up — both in staff and in spending on TV ads — has been quick. Just six weeks after he announced his candidacy, the former mayor of New York now boasts more than 800 staffers on his payroll and over $100 million spent on advertising.

The roughly 300 staffers working in the campaign's New York headquarters are set to move into a new building in Times Square to accommodate their burgeoning ranks, aides said.

The Super Tuesday staffing, which puts grassroots leadership teams and organizers in all the March contest states, as well as in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, which vote in April, solidifies Bloomberg as having the largest organization in the field after the four early-voting states in February.

"Our campaign is building the most robust national organization and infrastructure to beat Donald Trump," said Dan Kanninen, Bloomberg's states director.

is simply going to divide up the moderate vote with Joe on Super Tuesday , thus making it easier for the Progressive Candidate who emerges from the Early States to win the nomination …… Thanks Mike .. Deeply Appreciated

6. Don't worry. The liberal front-runner--Joe Biden--will do just fine on Super Tuesday.

The left-wing Bernie Sanders, on the other hand, may be mathematically eliminated.

Warren will still be in the race on Super Tuesday. The first few states aren't likely to run her out, particularly since polling shows her in a similar overall position to Sanders in ST states.

As for the "moderate" vote, it's more than half of the total. Good luck winning without it.

will help us in the long run. He had already dumped large sums of cash into Democratic races before his presidential run, and I hope that he will continue to do so should he not be the nominee. I suspect he will.

4. 538's Poll Tracker now has Bloomberg at 5.2% and climbing
Mon Jan 6, 2020, 09:14 PM
Jan 2020
Biden 27.5%

Sanders 17.8%

Warren 15.0%

Buttigieg 7.7%

Bloomberg 5.2%

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/president-primary-d/national/

Bloomberg is already closing in on Mayor Pete, who is at 7.7%, who knows how high he will eventually get?

Will there be a point where Bloomberg starts siphoning off Biden's support? Will he also erode Warren's support?

7. That 5.2% includes 11% from The Hill/HarrisX, which is almost certainly an outlier.

No one else has him higher than 7%. Most have him 3-5%.

He's also no higher than he was when he was first talking about running earlier in the year.

8. 538's Polling Model isn't as simplistic as RCP Polls
Mon Jan 6, 2020, 09:24 PM
Jan 2020

They just don't average the last 5 polls, they weight for factors such as house effects and do not let their model be overly effected by any single poll.

That said, time will tell.

But I would not be shocked to see that this Bloomberg trend is real.

12. I'm not talking about RCP. 538's number for Bloomberg for that poll is 11%.

Jan 2020

They make adjustments for outliers, of course, but that one is so much of an outlier that their model may not be able to fully account for it. It's roughly two to four times what he's getting in other polls.

Speaking of RCP, their average for Bloomberg (currently 7 polls) is less than half a point off of 538's, so that poll is likely influencing the average in both places to some degree. We'll get a better picture when it drops off, assuming the replacement isn't similarly skewed.

We really can't be sure how much one poll is effecting 538's numbers, but I understand your point.

Time will tell.

Bloomberg's progress, or lack of it, will sure to be of interest to a lot of us.

I look forward to discussing it again in the future.
