Did Warren end chances for both her and Bernie?

Lot of people believe that in the 2016 election that Bernie supporters upset at treatment of Bernie voted for Trump. So what did Warren think would happen if she cost Bernie the nomination?

What happens if Bernie drops in the polls by Warren saying on National TV that Bernie said a woman couldn’t win?

Somebody as smart as Warren should have known the potential consequences. She made a bad choice in the most important choice of her campaign. I like all the Democratic candidates but Bernie is my top choice. If Bernie is hurt by Warren and Warren gets the nomination I would still vote for her. I think it was a dumb mistake by Warren but she still represents what I believe in.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

that it has taken us almost 50 years to get to the point where women are taken seriously as a presidential candidate, and that she displayed her anger in public, like that for everyone to see. We always here from the idiots that women can't control their emotions, and she just perpetuated that myth. Hillary Clinton got it 10 times worse from Trump on that stage, and she NEVER did that. She laughed at him, brushed of her shouldes and moved on. That is what a presidential candidate does. If she can't even handle this from a colleague, she will never be able to manage Trump.

they didn't want to listen to Warren...a supporter...her voice or some such thing. It was kind of shocking. Yet, if women don't show passion than they are boring, weak and can't handle the job sigh... it really is a no win situation.

I wrote on this very forum that I didn't think a woman could get elected president in sexist America...but I was wrong. I see that now. As some pointed out Hillary won a primary and the popular vote...and she didn't lose the EC as I once thought because she was a woman but because of many years of bashing her, Comey...etc. And also, the blue wall states just happened to be fed up that year...they wanted help sent to their region and Trump made promises he will never keep in a million years-the stars aligned. And Trump won the EC.

On the bright side, I kind of think that won't happen this year...although, incumbents have an advantage. Warren showed guts and is now my second choice. And as always, I will vote blue no matter who.

who believe her behavior was excellent. I believe if she had backed down, many women (and men) would have been sympathetic but disappointed that she didn't assert her position. Others would have interpreted it as weakness, and possibly an admission that she was mistaken about what Sanders said or worse, lying about it.

She was in the classic Catch-22 position where women are criticized no matter what they did.

I also think Tom Steyer was trying to help by saying he wanted to say hello to Bernie--I think he thought BS & EW might not be aware of the hot mic. I don't like the negative portrayals of his action from some in the media.

... can't be called out, because we risk upsetting Bernie's supporters?

Uh, no can do.

I'm honestly more saddened that the gender wars are what is getting the press, and not the shady in-person canvass tactics. I was initially skeptical because the original reports seemed to imply it was a phone script -- and I have enough experience with phone banking to know that no one would waste valuable seconds to try to persuade a voter who was already leaning towards a Dem candidate. The question is mostly for internal polling/identifying which people you're calling support X candidate so if that candidate drops out and endorses, you can call them back.

Door-to-door canvass can get hairy anyway because you are going into persuasion. I'm frankly appalled that such scripts ever were released, instead of ones that specifically said "Do not attack the person's preferred choice, instead say you're excited for your candidate and why".

If I were to vote in a presidential

And I'm in a red area. So yes, for my personal safety as a lot of our population is armed, I didn't trash the man on their doorsteps either. I instead said why I thought HRC was the better candidate.

I will continue to trash Trump where it is deserved and call him on his bullshit when having discussions with people I know won't either shoot me or just slam the door in my face, and I don't think that's wrong. I don't attack him for his cosmetics, I simply say how (insert just about every decision he's ever made) is embarrassing to the nation.

But in any door-to-door canvass, especially in a primary, it's *stupid* to attack other Dem candidates. And wrong, and unfair, and I think Sanders should own it vs lie about it then quietly admit it and get into a war over what might or might not have been said in a private conversation as a distraction.

I think it is over for Bernie. Bernie doesn’t have a sexist past so for that conversation to make him a sexist just shows the eagerness to condemn him. When Bernie announced as a Democratic Socialist for the 2016 campaign I thought he was crazy. The lower classes are blamed for their own problems. Anybody sticking up for them has a long uphill row to hoe.

I would add, I have worked campaigns all of my adult life, and never...not once have I seen a script that attacked another candidate...it usually says good things about the candidate you support and about important issues. You know who made the mistake? Bernie's non-Democratic campaign staff. That's who. They sent out a script to be used by lowly underlings in Iowa and other places to damage Warren's campaign.

See, Bernie's team realizes that the competition for second place is the most important at this stage in the campaign. And that position is hotly contested by Sanders and Warren, who share, more or less, the same political philosophies.

The Sanders senior staff people know what's up and have been working in the background to attack Warren, since attacking Biden isn't working well at all. They think that if they can shift some Warren supporters to Sanders, he'll gain on the front-runner. In reality, it seems to be working, at least in Iowa. Of course, Iowa doesn't really matter much, but they believe it does.

So, by stirring up a battle between Sanders, who would deny that any such thing is going on, and Warren, who doesn't appear to recognize what's happening, the idea is to punch up Bernie's polling.

Biden just stands there smiling. He needn't get involved with that squabble. He can just say, "Let's you and him fight!"

And if he loses the nomination, it will be because he had the poor judgement to choose Sirota, Turner and other Stein voters to work for his campaign for the Democratic nomination for president. And they did what they do best, went after any Democrat who stand in his way using underhanded tactics like the script...but you know what happened on the debate stage, well...that was all Sanders doing. He handled it very poorly.

Since the facts are disputed as to whether Bernie said *exactly* what was claimed, it becomes a back-and-forth 'he said/she said'. And no candidate can appear to roll over in such a situation; to win ANY Democrat, in ANY situation had better be counterpunching.

You say something bad about me, I'm saying something worse about you; *regardless* of if what you said is true or not. This is how Trump fights. ANY attack, be it a snarky comment or something verifiable by extensive research is responded to in minutes, not fucking hours, with a full attack back.

"Truth" is determined by who wins, who hits hardest, just as "history" is written by those who win the wars.

However, one has nothing to do with the other. If some other candidate beats Sanders which is likely IMHO, it will not be Warren's or anyone's fault but Sanders. He is at best tied in states he should win easily and this is why he went after Warren with the elitist crap which is a ridiculous charge by the way. If Sanders doesn't get the nomination, it is on him. And Warren is running for the nomination herself...not her job to help Sanders out by being a good little woman. It just isn't. Sanders did this to himself...it is on him...with the script and by calling Warren a liar on stage no less...he could have handled it differently. I doubt Sanders will be the nominee and not because of anything that Warren did but because of how he has run his campaign and the anti-Democratic party people he hired for his campaign...that being said he has my vote in the general should I be wrong...and we won't have a rift if everyone votes for the nominee even if they are not Warren or Sanders.

Warren is now my second choice. She showed guts in standing up for herself and refusing to be a 'good' girl. At first during the primary Sanders was my second choice as I thought he could win Wisconsin...but he has conducted himself in such a way during the primary that he gets my vote only in a general. If Sanders loses the primary, it is on him...not Warren. Sanders is at fault and no one else should he lose the primary.

But hey, folks, it's long past time for all this petty crap to be flushed down the toilet. I know, as a Democrat, I'm going to get a President who cares about reforming health care, bridging the wealth inequity gap, strengthening my social security and medicare so I can have it when I get to it, working toward gun legislation reform and immigration reform and education reform and all of the things I care about. So what matters most is making sure that the orange headed buffoon is beaten into the ground and the Republicans are taught an electoral lesson about putting rule of law and loyalty to country ahead of selfish interests. She has a right to be angry.

She was attacked in 4 early voting states as a person who attracts elitists. How is that honest or fair? Warren has gone everywhere to campaign, in poor towns and well off cities, she doesn't seem to care, it seems to be about hearing people's issues to her.

I have a question for you. If a good friend appears to have said something negative about you, would you just blow that off? The concept of a friend is that person covers your back in all cases that are ethical and you do the same for that person. Bernie's campaign attacked Warren in a fundamental way by implying that she was some ivory tower person that attracts mostly elitists.

People were upset about the treatment Bernie received? Bernie was treated with kid gloves to not upset his supporters.

Now they tried to go after Warren and she didn't just accept it. And all the blame is put on Warren for calling people on their bs.
I actually think Warren needs to sink Bernie. That's just a personal opinion but in a 1 on 1 matchup against Biden, I think Warrren would do considerably better than Sanders.

123. This is truth - Warren did NOT bring this up.
Fri Jan 17, 2020, 11:43 AM
Jan 2020

She just told the truth when asked by the media about Bernie's trying to push her not to run and now that she's running he's lying about his effort. Is he twisting it in his mind that he was telling her she couldn't win, and not that some woman couldn't win? Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.

This was raised to media by a friend of Warenn's who had been in the room in 2016 and was told by Liz what happened after the talk - the friend remembered and thought it was heinous so brought it up. Those are the facts. Of course, the actual words are still disputed.

Fri Jan 17, 2020, 08:54 PM

Whenever you are in a media production area (TV, radio, podcast) you assume you are on a live hot mike. She should have smiled, shook his hand, walked off the stage, and either called him in private or worked to express her displeasure through surrogates.

It was not smart politics.
