I think that the title of your OP should read Biden 38 and Bernie 18.

I think it would be much to the nation’s relief if someone like Biden were to take over the reins.

It would usher in a time of calmer cooler heads, an end to the fever and madness, and the beginning of healing of many many wounds, across America and around the world.

You may be reading more into the poll than it is saying.

It does NOT say that Biden has the best chance to beat Trump, would best motivate the Dem base, would best attract indies/moderates.

It says that people BELIEVE these things. That doesn't make them true.

It's one of these really meaningless polls. What is the point of asking voters who they think would best attract independents and moderates? If that's what you want to know, just go out and poll the independent and moderates! Then you'll know who best attracts them, which is much more useful than knowing who other people believe best attracts them, which is what this poll does.

Our actual values are not usually reflected in the candidates we support. It gives a bogus impression that rank and file Democrats are further to the center than they really are.
