Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI like Bernie. A lot. I just wish he wasn't running.
Like him or not, he brings a divisiveness to the primaries that we can't afford right now. He brings out a divisiveness within me! Personally, I love the guy, but I wish he'd just go away. I truly believe it would make our chances of winning in November better. And I have a feeling some reactions to this post will bear out my thesis.

(17,600 posts)I used to like Bernie a lot. I think I would like him a lot still, if he had stayed out this year and worked to elect the best nominee we could get - whoever that turned out to be.
I can't come up with any positive explanation for WHY he had to step in and re-open old wounds this year.

(48,978 posts)general election and help re-elect Trump if he's our nominee. And probably cost us the House as well.
The people he surrounds himself with -- especially the former Jill Stein supporters -- also concern me. They have a large following among Sanders supporters, and if they don't back our nominee unless the nominee is Sanders...

(1,812 posts)Bernie hasn't made any personal attacks on his opponents ..He is attacking a political system that is corrupt to it's core Most of the American people feel the same way ..Have you checked out the approval rating that Congress has gotten for the last 20 years ? ..People want blunt talk - and they want systemic change ..Not mere piddling around the edges .That is why we ended up with an Orange Reality TV Host as President .It was a horrible error to elect Trump but his election highlights the great dissatisfaction with business as usual politics

(34 posts)It is not as President.
Let's say he was to win the nomination and then become the president. Where is his ruling majority in both houses to get things done? A majority of democrats do not support his plan to solve healthcare little alone republicans. Where is the majority to work on the Green New Deal? Where is his majority to offer free tuition for all who go to college? Very little of his "systemic change " would happen. The only thing that will happen that would not occur with any other democrat winning is that his Presidency would lead to a decade of republican victories on the national, state and local levels. My friends who are democrats who are now serving in office fear a Bernie win because they fear the tag of being called a socialist will follow them.
I will vote for Bernie if he is nominee and work for him but his place to do the most good for the country is in the Senate.

He needs to make a decision as to who he is going to be.

(7,538 posts)but I never believed he could be elected even when I voted for him in the 2016 Nevada caucus (which by the way was one of the most unpleasant political experiences I have had in a long time).
I loved it when Bernie threw bombs about in the Senate as I have never been much of a fan of Senators in general them typically being the mouthpieces and agents of the wealthy IMO. But when the fine print is examined, Bernie wasn't much different from most of the other Senators...he has always opposed stronger gun laws and has as a rule always supported increased defense spending, and so has never really fit my ideal of a progressive candidate.
Bottom line is I never considered him electable in a general presidential election...but wait for it...I don't consider Biden very electable either. I believe Biden will split all the boomer votes with Trump and everybody else will stay home.
As things currently stand I will vote for Warren in the primary.
