Part of me wishes Obama had waited to run, because we need a candidate like him now and he was so young when he ran. But it's rare for a party to hold the White House for more than 2 terms, so he might have never gotten to be president if he waited.

I went to a rally for him the night before he dropped out. I always thought he was too slick by half, but I did like what he had to say; and during the rally, which was very positive and attracted a lot of union people, there was no suggestion at all that he was going to drop out. But first thing the next morning when I checked the news I discovered he had. As it turned out that was a good thing.

I was an early supporter of Richardson but I think he dropped by the time it got to my state.

I also may have switched to Obama by then. I was an enthusiastic supporter of Obama at least as soon as it became clear he would most likely be the nominee. I liked him from the beginning but at first thought Richardson had a stronger portfolio.

One thing I learned from that - charisma matters. It has to be charisma that is effective across the board for key voting cohorts. For example, BS is for some reason very effective with younger voters, but falls off with older voters. Since older voters have higher turnout, always, this is a problem for BS. He also seems to fall off with AAs and that is a bloc we need for big cities in swing states.

to answer any questions or discuss your poll with anyone. So, why did you ask that question? What did you expect to discover.

Most people, as the poll shows, voted for Barack Obama in that primary, and he ended up winning. Hillary was the nominee in 2016, and won the popular vote. If you posted a poll about that, you'd find that most people voted for Hillary in the 2016 primary, just as the actual voters did.

But, I'm still not sure why you asked about the 2008 primary. Why not come back into the thread and answer my question? That'd be great...

I first was for Edwards in 2008, dropped him like he was hot when when the first ill winds blew. I wanted to win. I switched to Obama and worked my tail off for him.

Just to further add to your confusion, I started out working for O'Malley in 2015 and switched to Hillary when he dropped out in February of 2016. She was already inching him out to my eyes. She had my primary vote, and full support thereafter. Prior to 2016 I didn't know Bernie well. I had heard the hype, and was interested. Then I dropped him like he was hot and moved to O'Malley once I'd done some research. I've never looked back.

DU polls and spot moment enthusiasm doesn't carry over into votes once candidates are being truly vetted. Hype vs. reality is often a grim lesson learned.

Choosing a candidate is a complex process. As individual as the person doing the choosing.

Had she won in 2008, we would have had Obama in 2016 (who was still young enough to wait), and we wouldn't be in the mess we are today.

This is not a dis at Obama, he was the best president in decades. But we could have had both. In 2008 any Democrat could have beaten any Republican.
