Abrams on Biden: 'We cannot have perfection as a litmus test'

BY MICHAEL BURKE - 04/04/19 08:32 AM EDT

Stacey Abrams on Thursday defended J oe Biden amid allegations that the former vice president has inappropriately touched women, saying that "we cannot have perfection as a litmus test" for candidates.

The former Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate, appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," added that she thinks Biden has held himself accountable and applauded him for pledging to change his behavior.

"We cannot have perfection as a litmus test. The responsibility of leaders is to not be perfect but to be accountable. To say, ‘I made a mistake, I understand it and here’s what I’m going to do to reform as I move forward,'" Abrams said.

“I think we see Joe Biden doing that. I think the vice president has acknowledged the discomfort he’s caused. He has created context for why that is his behavior and he has confirmed that he will do something different going forward. I think that’s what we should be looking for," she continued. “We have to as a people have to be ready to forgive. But forgiveness does not mean you accept it unless what you see is accountability.”

As far as I'm concerned as soon as Joe came out and said he accepted that the world had changed and that he would change his behavior to meet the standards we now expect, the matter was basically closed. That's all that was required to bring this to an end, it definitely wasn't a disqualifying issue.

8. Normal standards never apply to Bernie

We should be used to that by now. As can be evidenced by posts still standing on this board that compare him to Donald Trump, despite the rules completely forbidding any such type of posting.

10. I agree that the posts defending Bernie by comparing him to Trump are absurd.

I read over and over here that it's fine that Bernie hasn't released his tax returns because Trump hasn't released his either. That's ridiculous.

I say "almost" laughable, cuz it's sad and, frankly, disgusting how low some people will go to bash this good man. Comparisons of Bernie to the Tyrant-in-Chief is but one example!!

14. Let me be clear- I blame Sen. Sanders for our 2016 loss . In my opinion, his support of Clinton

was lukewarm at best. I will never forgive or forget. I will vote for the senator in a general. of course but never in a primary. I think he will surely lose a general so I hope he is not the nominee. And he should release his taxes and Trump should too.

Let me add this is my opinion. I can offer no proof and others clearly have a different opinion.
