Bernie isn't the first candidate to be attacked with the "socialism" fear both from the GOP & his

own party & I'm always amazed at the amount of attacks Bernie gets right here on DU for his fight for We The People

6. The real socialists hated FDR as much as the right wingers did.

And FDR always made it clear as gin that he was not a socialist but a pragmatic moderate who was trying to save capitalism by regulating it.

Running for re-election in 1936, Roosevelt said of his big-money critics: “They are unanimous in their hate of me and I welcome their hatred.”

But when Mr. Sanders quotes that line in his stump speech, he doesn’t mention that Roosevelt soon tacked to the center. He rebuffed calls for national health insurance as impractical, backed a balanced budget, insisted that most welfare be connected to work and supported free trade. As World War II approached, he abandoned the New Deal entirely and invited the corporate titans who loathed him to help him win it. With the end of the war in sight, he renewed his liberal domestic agenda with the landmark G.I. Bill, which inspired today’s Democratic focus on affordable education.

Norman's reply was, "Yes, he is carrying it out in a coffin.”

Socialists knew FDR was NOT one of them.

and never called themselves socialists. Maybe that's why the word didn't stick.

I don't mind his policies. I just know there's no way he's going to win swing states.

Yes, ANY D is going to get slandered as a Socialist and a good portion of the public will buy it.

That is bad enough - it becomes trying to battle to get the half paying attention people to figure it out.

So, you CAN win ...

But, electing someone who openly self identifies as a socialist?

There is a reason the Rs WANT Bernie as our nominee ...
